Icon4 Wiki team - 2nd August 2008

I have a proposal to make.

Why not form a sub-section for a Wikipedia taskforce, consisting of a team of volunteers. The team will:
  • Make and improve all articles concerning Lebanon.
  • Put proper pressure on biased articles against Lebanon.
  • Spread out evenly the information about Lebanon (not only focus on politics and neglect for example many other trivial matters).
  • Add and improve graphics about Lebanese related topics and standardize them.
  • Join other Wikipedians in discussions over factual and accuracy matters.

I propose also the sub-section to be made up of 2 main parts, one hidden and one open to public.
  1. The hidden part is where the team members work and discuss about articles etc and set up the process for separate articles to be modified etc.
  2. The public part is where people can suggest proposals for certain researches for topics.

I am willing to lead the initiative and set up the orange room wiki mechanism.

If we don't do it ourselves, no one is going to do it.

So I suggest from the Administration to consider the idea, it would be a great help also to have several petitioners to support the idea.

Just click on the "Thank you button" to sign the petition if you approve of the idea.

CPL,

This is a good initiative, however it is not new, a similar idea already exists.

In fact, there is a wikipedia project called WikiProject_Lebanon which aims to achieve some of the points that you enumerated. There is around 60 participants working around this project there. Anyone can participate to it (see the list of participants)

The same idea exists also on the French wikipedia. There, it is linked to the "Portail Liban".

However, you must know that all the articles on wikipedia must be neutral and objective and that's a very important point. (Take a look at the Five pillars of Wikipedia or to the Principes Fondateurs (French) )

(Personally, i have more than 6000 contributions on the French Wikipedia and ~800 on the English one, if you have any question, please feel free to ask).

I know that there's a "lebanese team" on wikipedia etc. My point was to group our forces and create a sort of think tank on our own here.

lol
wikipedia , i never use it unless i am really really desperate
i remember once reading an article about maronites in lebanon
there was some descriptions:
general michel aoun : the representative of god on earth
samir geagea : murderer , mass criminal

that article was obviously edited by an aounist
wikipedia staff deleted later the sentence "representative of god on earth " lol
what a lame idea that any little kid can edit articles that millions of ppl can see and consider as a good reference

Fighting vandalism is one of the main issues in Wikipedia.

There are dedicated teams that fight it using special scripts and bots. Anyway comments done by a little kid on the Wikipedia space won't last a few seconds or minutes before getting removed.

Besides, it is very easy to block repetitive vandalism coming from the same IP.

Please take a look at Geagea's article, and you will know that Wikipedia is not unbiased at all. In fact, most wikipedians of Lebanon are pro-LF. Not a single mention about alleged war crimes nor any commonly discussed "allegations" about Geagea, which is common all around the world when he is mentioned.

That is why we need our own task force to take things into matter properly.
