Toni aborded some general aspects we could all agree on, but let's go deeper about the moderation itself.
A political moderator should interfere in last resort.
Now some few points he should focus on :
Off-topic posts should be deleted from the root. Very often, one off-topic post could lead to many pages of off-topic posts in reply. A moderator if he judges accordingly should delete everything. Sometimes, despite being off-topic, a discussion may be rich in content. Therefore, the moderator should split, merge or open a new thread, an easier way to avoid any ambiguity. This may be subject to a warning, following a possible ban in extreme cases.
Ad hominem. Every member is intitled to his own opinion and discrediting a member's post on his political affiliation among others shouldn't be tolerated. The forum has been witnessing a lot of this posts lately. It's a logical fallacy : the member compromises himself and weakens his position. This may be subject to a warning, following a possible ban in extreme cases.
SPAM. This is now an official FPM forum. This is in no way a promotion tool for other parties, whether current political allies or opponents. This concerns few members that would recognize themselves.
Articles are now cleared the administration which is a good tool. Posting large articles without a summary or a sufficient comment is forbidden. Posting articles as an argument is weak, a member should elaborate his own opinion on what and why he agrees on. This would prevent futile discussions.
A political moderator should by definition limit any excess. He is not here to promote the forum. By doing his job, he will sure help to safeguard this thin line between freedom of speech and censorship and making this forum an example of diversity and tolerance. Also, a moderator should abide the rules and is subject to the same measures as everyone else. It is up to the members to create a variety of quality threads where each political party could share his opinion. Make the moderators work in a positive way, by submitting interesting polls, posting analytic articles and voicing your own editorials.
Also, a bit about me. I've been on this forum for almost 2 years. I never had any disagreement with any members. I do not post often because I am rather a rational thinker and analyser. I read all the posts and make a general idea about the members and topics. I know the members by the way they act, they write and they think as most of them have been here for few months and years.
I won't answer the questions raised by Boiler as they are IMHO not related to the moderation charge. Only a point that may concern the members, I am politically affiliated to FPM by principles. | you should send a PM to X in this case... | | | | | Registered Member

In another way, here are the steps to complete the political forum staff: Step1:Administration appoints 1 team leader and members elect 1 team leader. Step2:Those 2 team leaders (1 appointed by the administration and 1 elected by the members) will choose the 13 moderators. Step3:The 13 moderators will elect the 3rd team leader.
And since zouxi is not proposing his candidacy for team leader in the political forum, but in the community forum,we are left here, and for the time being, with 2 candidacies:
- Bejin
- mehdi soldier |
This sounds as complicated as the Texas Democratic Primaries... | | | | | Administrator

I am not about to write a complete vision about the work required for this position. I have a certain way of working that some people like and some people dislike. As a fervent fan of this forum,i wish that candidates take into a consideration my opinion on the fact that a moderator should mainly have 2 major tasks:
1-Making sure that the forum is balanced and that rules are followed smoothly and naturally,in a discrete, almost invisible manner.
2-Giving to other members his input, suggestions and incentives, maybe sometimes directions, without influencing their opinion, which would have the direct effect of encouraging posters to bring the best out of them, thus push the forum to the utmost quality of posting.
The first category is meant to protect and preserve the forum, and keep it functionning in harmony.
But it's mainly in the second category that a moderator can bring a plus to the forum.
I won't say more,but i wish that candidates could talk a little about both categories. | | | | | Registered Member

my view regarding the political forum and my goal/project is simple and most significant.my goal would be under 3 main points:
1.)uphold the rules of the forum as a focal point for all members to abide by including myself.i've not read any of the candidates mentioning the forum rules(up till now) when in the first place the rules are the essence of such an election.
2.)make sure that moderators and myself do not abuse the right of members to freely express their views regardless of their political affinities.
3.)sugest and implement new rules or ideas as deem necessary for the betterment and progress of the forum and as demanded by time. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to mehdi soldier For This Useful Post: | | | Registered Member
