This Saturday, at 8:30PM Beirut time, The Orange Room will go offline for one hour as a support to the Earth Hour Campaign.

We wish all our members and guests turn off their PCs, TVs and lights on Saturday night at 8:30PM local time.

that's cool

but it makes no real sense for the site to just go offline (saving cpu-cycles/hd-spin/network-bandwidth minimal power consumption), the servers needs to shutdown to save the most energy.

Although I don't get the practical reasons and the effect it will have if the Orange Room shuts down, I support this initiative as it takes a political stand!

FPMers show once again that they are not only interested in political politics, but also on other important issues such as the environment!

The Earth Hour is a Global Warming Awareness Campaign, the aim in not to reduce energy use for an hour, it's to spread awareness, 2 years ago it started in Sydney, and this year it is going global.

Many people were not aware of the Earth Hour and had to open this thread and read why will the Orange Room go offline for an hour and now understand the meaning of Earth Hour and they will spread it around.
