Dish Network maktou3 3anna, and I am among the "legal" subscribers and many Lebanese neighbours also. Simple coincidence to happen on May 1st ? Probably... I am located in Montreal suburb. Anyone is having the same issue ? Btw, I called to report the blackout, the rep seemed clueless and even more clueless about the date when OTV will be avalaible on dish network.

in2ta3 3anna too. . but what I meant for OTV is that GlobeCast WorldTV company, it is like the dish network of the free to air channels , addressed on their website that starting May 1st, OTV is not going to be free any more, but fortunately I can still watch it.

about the "legal" issue, what receiver do you have?

I have the newest sonicveiw ( it has a USB port) and the guy send us the file (mostly in the same day ) by e-mail and just put the file in a USB flash and transfer to the receiver and voila....................and he doesn't charge us for the "update" service.

otherwise, you probably have to wait for "the cable guy" the will charge $20 each time you have to update the file. ( since you live in Montreal, most probably my cousin is " the cable guy") .

LOL those cable guys ma fi aktar minnoun. Don't worry I am enough of a techie to figure out how to do it if I get a receiver like yours, but for now, I still have the old receiver with the smart cards... Finally I sorted the problem. 2el chou tol3it, you have to unplug the power wire for 10 mins then plug it back... it has been years I've had this receiver and never done so before and it has always worked without problem. El mohem meche el hal.

As per OTV, my parents are still reticent to get it and still hoping Dish Network would offer it soon avoiding us buying a second receiver.

All you need is a minimum of 33 in dish, anything smaller will not work, with one LNB, and any FTA receiver will do, you can buy a receiver for maybe $50 or $60, the dish new with the LNB is about $100, but you can find used good ones at flea markets. Once you get the hardware, all you need is to install the dish and point it to the satellite, and program the receiver for that satellite.
Now to watch everything that Dish Network has to offer for free, there is a way, but it's illegal. The setup is very simple, and the cost is about two months worth of regular subscription to DN. You can receive all the arabic channels, in addition to all the Pay per View, pay channels such as cinemax, showtime, etc, and about 1000 other channels.
