Default Guide to watch OTV in US and Canada - 5th April 2008

So you live in North America and you are sick of some lame tv stations such as FTV and NBN (at least this is what I think)? Just watch OTV for free!!!!!!!

you probably know that there are 2 ways to watch arabic and lebanese channels in the US and Canada:

1) dish network: paid service; channels include LBC america, FTV ( i'd rather die than watch their BS), New TV, NBN ( everything is related to 7araket amal, literally) , in addition to other famous arabic channels such as mbc, abudhabi, etc.... this service can get really expensive ( unless you are illegally watching it for free! i think the word lebanese comes to mind).

2) Telestar 5, a free to air satellite, absolutely free (legally): actually most people got because of almanar but unfortunately it got baned in 2004; nevertheless there are about 15 arabic channels like syria tv and similar bs stations.

but the good news is OTV is on the free satellite.

so just run an update and check for orange tv at 11789MHz, vertical on the same satellite (telestar 5) or any other satellite with orbital position of 97 West ( you can change satellites from settings).

one thing you will notice is the signal is extremely weak ( very susceptible to weather conditions), but good enough to enjoy watching OTV.

however, usually what happens is that some free channels get "promoted" to dish network, but this is still unclear with the case of OTV.

As a share holder, I felt that it is my duty to promote OTV and make watching OTV easier.

i contacted Dish Network and asked them to consider adding OTV to their services..

they responded that they are always working for their customers and would look at this issue...

if a lot of their customers ask for OTV, perhaps they might add it to their channels..

I also called dishnetwork and asked them for OTV, but thanks for the info on how to get it otherwise.
By the way, how do you hire telestar? do they have a website or a 1800 number? do you need their own sattelite dish? or anyone would work?

I guess any dish and receiver would work.

I have dish network and they are very responsive to users needs. If enough of us tell them we need you to add OTV on the menu they will eventually do so. I think if you threat them that you may cancel their service, I bet they will respond.

you can't use the dish network satellite right now to get the otv because its orbital position is about 144 ( guessing) whereas to get the otv you need the dish pointing at 97 degrees.

so in the mean time, if you can find a really cheap dish and receiver, then why not. that's the case with us we have 2 satellites.

I already have 2 dishes with dishnetwork, one for the american channels and one for the arab ones only. If all it takes is to turn the one dedicated for the arab channels a few degrees then i will, otherwise I'll buy the globecast dish and cancel my arabic channels from dishnetwork. I really am fed up of watching May Chediak and Co on LBC or Ammanacare and Nkoula Eemaz on NBN and NTV....Thanks for the info shevchenco.

Keep calling is the best way. Once it will be available through Dish Network, the catch may be that you have to get the arab elite super pack to get OTV meanwhile LBC is avalaible in the basic arabic package.
