[FPM Files]: August 7, 2008: Asterix & Obelix on OTV...

Orange TV, the dream of every FPMer to reach the world by Media since the very first days of activism, played the "Asterix & Obelix" cartoons on the night of August 7.

August 7 is indeed a very simple occasion in the history of FPM and of Rebellion and Freedom and Resistance in Lebanon... Incidents that go back to the nineties and late eighties could be more important. However, August 7 has its popular symbol because it was the first incident to be that massively covered by the media and that affecting to the public opinion.

This thread is the first in a serie of threads that will be entitled [FPM Files]. Why is that? Because I smell bad stuff coming out of various circles within our legendary movement! Simple and clear!

What happened on that night requires detailed clarification and it better be convincing!

Is OTV taking distance from the Free Patriotic Movement and joining the Club of Commercialization of everything in Lebanon?

Did General Michel Aoun really prohibit the OTV administration (as one of its top officials declared to me) to work on an episode about the incidents of August 7, 2001? If that's true, what are the reasons and if not, then why could a top official in the OTV administration be spreading such rumors?

I hope ma7ada yejeh yestad bel ma2 el 3aker (as we say in one of our proverbs) in this thread or in the ones that will be coming later on different files... Intentions behind this thread are purely clean and clear!

I have been asking about an OTV special August 7 report in other threads.

In anycase, this top official of yours should be slapped a couple of times for spreading such rumours.

GMA is neither the CEO nor the Chairman of the BOD to be giving orders left and rite prohibiting or allowing shows. Unless OTV = FPM, which contradicts many FPM'ers on this forum and shareholders' point of view.

i usually don't watch tv much, so i'm kinda out of the circle, but i did click this thread's link becuz i saw Asterix & Obelix by accident on otv in the afternoon and i must say i had seen this movie b4 and it was a good movie.

so what happened, they ran this movie again at night after the news or something instead of some documentary ?? didn't they cover august 7 in the news that night ?

On a more serious note; OTV intends to perpetuate true freedom of expression by setting new standards for innovation, independence, impartiality, and diversity in the media arena. In this context, showing Asterix & Obelix is somewhat understandable on a day where Lebanese protesters where beaten by local intelligence forces since such a move might go against the objectives of innovation, independence, impartiality and diversity.

you have a good point there
but these anonymous sources are always a suspect to me.
better to check why this happened and need to remind many of the people on forum that OTV, is not the political mouth piece of the FPM. just hear me out
the contarct was done between FPM and OTV for exclusivity, and that FPM can control the news only. the rest of the programs are independent.
that is why many people decided to invest in it, following the assurances of at least some freedom of work ( politically ).
so it is better to wait and see the reasons before jumping to conclusions.
on a personal basis i would have loved to see a piece on aug 07, but i would not rush in condemning them.
maybe they wanted to calm things down with mm and in matn in general.
see how lalous said that OTV was targetting him. JUST MAYBE

At 8.45 PM so that kids could watch the Gauls' adventures before going to an early sleep since there are schools next day.

IF, and i emphasize on the IF, this is the case, then to hell with OTV, FPM or whatever, covering the truth just to increase the probability of gaining a few ''secured'' votes from a person that issued a fake apology in order to ensure his political survival then backstabbed us publicly with his media stunts.

i will ask some major share holders in OTV and try to get a clear answer.
