أيّتها الأخوات، أيّها الإخوة المواطنون، أمّهات وآباء وشباباً، أيها الحضور الكريم


أتوجّه إليكم اليوم، لا لأحدّثكم عن بيان انتخابيّ يجسّد طموحاتكم وأمانيكم، فبرنامجنا يتحدّث عن ذاته، ولا لأذكّركم بأنّ الانتخابات النيابية ستكون بعد شهر من الآن، فأنتم تنتظرونها بفارغ الصبر لتقولوا الكلمة الحاسمة في مسيرتنا التغييرية الاصلاحية، بل أخاطبكم لإحياء ذاكرتكم، بما تعرّضنا له جميعاً في هذا الوطن، وما زلنا نتعرّض له من محاولات على مختلف المستويات لتعطيل قدرتنا على الاختيار الصحيح. إنّ القوى الحاكمة تهدف إلى محو ذاكرة المواطن اللبناني واستبدال مخزونها من الوقائع التي تدينها بشكل مبرم، بسلسلة من الأحاسيس البدائيّة التي تبعدنا عن جوهر الانتخاب المرتكز على مساءلة المسؤولين، ومحاسبتهم على إغراق مجتمعنا في مستنقع من الأزمات المزمنة. لقد استُنفد الكثير من طاقات مجتمعنا البشريّة والمادّيّة، وهو ما زال يسير في مسار انحداريٍّ، ويعاني خطر السقوط النهائي، إن لم يستنهض جميع قواه الحيّة للخروج من سيطرة القوى المافيوية.


منذ ثلاثة عشر عاماً، وفي الخامس عشر من شهر تمّوز من العام 1996 وجّهت إليكم نداءً دعوتكم فيه إلى الاستمرار في مقاطعة الانتخابات، لأنّها لم تكن عمليّة اختيار لمن يمثلكم ويدافع عن حقوقكم، بل عمليّة بصم للتصديق على أمر واقع فرض عليكم بالقوّة ، وتكريس طبقة سياسية مستسلمة ومذعنة لكلّ مشيئة غريبة تَفرِض نفسها.


أمّا اليوم، فأنتم أمام فرصة تاريخيّة توفّر لكم إمكانيّة تجديد العمل الديمقراطيّ، وإغناء المجلس النيابيّ والمؤسّسات السياسيّة بفكر جديد ونهج جديد، من شأنهما تعزيز قدرتنا على التغيير، وإعطاء دفع قويّ لمسيرة الإصلاح.


أمّا الذين يحملون اليوم زوراً، شعار السيادة والحرّيّة والاستقلال، فهم أنفسهم الذين جَبُنوا عن رفعه بوجه الوصاية، وعلى نقيض هذا، دافعوا عن هذه الوصاية، فوصفوا فقدان السيادة بالشرعيّ والضروريّ والموقّت، وجعلوا من رمز هويتكم، العلم اللبناني، قبلة يوضاس، فصار حملكم له مؤشراً لتوقيفكم ثم سجنكم وضربكم وتعذيبكم.


هؤلاء هم أنفسهم الذين أغرقوا البلاد في الديون، وهدموا مؤسّسات الدولة، لبناء شركاتهم على أنقاضها، وجعلوا منكم زبائن لهذه الشركات، يجنون منكم الأرباح، بدل أن تكونوا مواطنين تتمتّعون بحقوق.

من هذا المنطلق، ليس عليكم أن تتساءلوا أو أن تطلبوا الرأي من أحد، فالرأي هو لديكم، والجواب موجود عندكم.


صحيح أننا روّاد التغيير والإصلاح، وصحيح أنّنا، وعلى رغم العراقيل التي وضِعت في طريقنا، تمكّنا من تحقيق العديد من الإنجازات المهمّة، من خلال مسؤوليّتنا في المجلس النيابيّ، وفي الوزارة؛ ولكن يبقى الكثير بانتظارنا، ونحن بحاجةٍ إلى الأكثريّة النيابيّة للتمكّن من إقرار ما أعددنا من إصلاحات، وتطبيق برنامجنا الانتخابيّ.


إفتحوا أبصاركم وبصائركم على ما هو حولكم، وحلّلوا ما أنتم اليوم فيه، ومن يدفع عجلة الحكم إلى الأمام، ومن يشدُّ بها إلى الوراء، فتجدون الجواب بأنفسكم، وتهتدون إلى الحلِّ من غير عناء وتعرفون أعليكم أن تختاروا التغيير أم أن تجدِّدوا لأهل الحكم...؟!


أجل... فليسأل العامل منكم ظروف عمله اليوم، أيختار التغيير أم يجدّد لعهد إهدار الحقوق؟ فيسمع من فم فاقته، الجواب الشافي.


وليسأل الصناعيّ فيكم، أوضاع صناعته اليوم، أيختار التغيير أم يجدّد لعهد حيتان المال؟ فيسمع من ضائقته الصناعية، الجواب القاطع.


وليسأل التاجر منكم أحوال تجارته، أفلا يجيبه كسادها، وحال البوار الذي هي فيه، عن اليقين الذي يسأل عنه؟


وليَعُدِ المزارع منكم إلى حقله وزراعته فيسألهما: إن اخترت التجديد للإهمال المتمادي، فهل أنقذ إنتاجي الزراعي من التلف ومن رميه في الشارع؟ وإن جاء الجواب نعم، فليجدّد.


وليرجع الموظف منكم إلى نفسه ويسألها: إن جدّدت لعهد الفساد، أسيكفيني راتبي لسدِّ حاجات عائلتي لأكثر من نصف الشهر؟ وإن جاءه الجواب بأن نعم، فليجدّد.


وليسأل المكلَّف بالضريبة منكم، وكلّكم مكلَّفون، معدّلات الضرائب، والمبالغ الخياليّة، المفروضة عليه: تُراني إن جدّدتُ، فهل ستنزاحين عن كاهلي غداً ؟ فإن جاء الجواب نعم، فليجدّد.


وليسأل الآباء والأمّهات، عن الأقساط المدرسيّة الآتية، وعن أعباء الحياة غداً، إذا عاد أهل الحكم أنفسهم، وعن مستقبل أولادهم، وإن وجدوا في الجواب بصيص أمل لتحسّنٍ ما، فليجدّدوا.


وليسأل العاطلون من العمل منكم اليوم أنفسهم : ترى، هل سيؤمّن لنا تجديد البيعة عملاً للقمة كفاف كريمة ؟ فإن نعم، فليجدّدوا.


وليسأل الذين صاروا على حدود الفقر من أهل الطبقة الوسطى عندنا، هل لديهم بصيص أمل بتحسّن في وضعهم الاجتماعيّ في ظلّ هذا الحكم، فإن نعم، فليجدّدوا.


وليسأل الفقراء والمعوزون حقّاً، هل سيكفيهم تجديد البيعة اليوم ذلَّ السؤال غداَ؟ فإن نعم، فليجدّدوا.


وليتذكّر المهجَّرون، ما آلت إليه وعود العودة إلى ديارهم، وليسألوا الأطلال عن أملهم في عودة كريمة، فإن وجدوها في صندوق المهجَّرين، فليجدّدوا.


وليسأل الشباب منكم ، حال الضّياع والتشتّت الذي هم فيه، إن جدّدوا لمن جعلهم سلعة في صادراتنا، أسيؤدي بهم هذا التجديد إلى الاستقرار وعدم الهجرة ؟ فإن نعم، فليجدّدوا.

واسألوا عن آثاركم، فخر حضارتكم، فإن لم تكن إلى طمس وزوال، فجدّدوا.


واسألوا عن بيئتكم الملوّثة وتفحّصوها، فإن لم تكن قد زادت تلوّثاً، وإن لم تكن متروكة لمصيرها المحتوم، فجدّدوا.


وتفحصّوا خطاب حكّامكم السياسيّ، عن الانصهار الوطنيّ، وعن الوحدة الوطنيّة، فإن وجدتم أنّهم قد ساروا فيهما، ولو خطوة واحدة، فجدّدوا..


أطلبوا إلى نواب الموالاة الحاليّين أن يشرحوا لكم القوانين التي عرقلوها، فإن وجدتم في عرقلتها أدنى مصلحة لكم أو لوطنكم، فجدّدوا.


واسألوا اللاهثين منهم وممّن يدور في فلكهم، المستميتين لتمثيلكم في البرلمان، عن قرارهم الحرّ، فإن وجدتموه عندهم، وفي أيديهم فجدّدوا.


وليسأل القضاة عن سمعة قضائهم، فإن كانوا راضين عن الجواب، فجدّدوا.


وليسأل الصحافيّون والإعلاميّون أنفسهم، عن مدى حرّيّة قلمهم ورأيهم، فإن كانوا راضين، فجدّدوا.


اسألوا خزينة الدولة، عن مبلغ الدّين العامِّ، الداخليّ منه والخارجيّ، وإذا وجدتم أنّ أولادكم وأولاد أولادكم، قادرين على إيفائه من غير ركوع ولا ارتهان، فجدّدوا.


إسألوا عن المشاريع الضخمة، لمن تكون؟ وفي مصلحة من هي؟ واسألوا عن الشركات العملاقة التي تأسّست مؤخّراً، وتتأسّس اليوم، فإن وجدتم أنّ أسهمها ثابتة بيد اللبنانيين، وأن ريعها لهم، فجدّدوا.


اسألوا المتخمين ثراءً، الجائعين إلى السلطة، بمن ولمن يحكمون؟ فإن بكم ولكم، فجدّدوا.


لبناننا اليوم على مفترق مصيريّ من تاريخه ومن حياته السياسيّة والوطنيّة. والانتخابات التي يُخطّط لها أهل الحكم، بما أعدّوا لها من عدّة ومال، واستعملوا من قوّة إعلاميّة تضليليّة، فخ خطير، فحاذروا الوقوع فيه واجتنبوه، ولا تدعوا أحداً يُزيِّن لكم أنّ من حكم لبنان سبعة عشر عاماً متتالية، قادر على التغيير، فلو استطاع ذلك لفعل، فهو إمّا عديم الكفاءة أو سيّئ النيّة، والنتيجة واحدة في كلتا الحالتين. إنّ حقل الزؤان هذا لن يعطيكم قمحاً، وكلّ هذا العوسج لن ينبت لكم ولو تينة واحدة.


واعلموا أيها اللبنانيون أنّ مقوّمات الاقتصاد اللبنانيّ أصبحت تحت الحدّ الأدنى، وأنّ الوضع الماليّ تحت رحمة حجم الودائع المصرفيّة. إنّ السياسة الماليّة الفاشلة التي اعتمدتها القوى الحاكمة والقائمة على الضرائب والاستدانة بفائدة عالية، ضخّمت الديون وشلّت قطاعات إنتاجنا، وحوّلت مجتمعنا إلى مجتمع رَيعيّ.


لقد لدغتكم التجارب بما فيه الكفاية، مدّة سبعة عشر عاماً، فلا تلدغوا مدّة أربعة أعوام أخرى.

الانتخابات أمامكم، وهي فرصة خلاص، فاقتنصوها باختياركم التغيير.

Allocution du général Michel Aoun à l’occasion de la présentation du programme électoral du Courant Patriotique Libre le 7 mai 2009

Chers concitoyens et concitoyennes,

Chères mères, chers pères, chers jeunes,

Auguste assemblée,

Je ne m’adresse pas à vous aujourd’hui pour vous parler d’un communiqué électoral qui concrétise vos ambitions et vos attentes puisque notre programme est assez éloquent et parle pour lui-même ; ni pour vous rappeler les élections électorales qui auront lieu dans un mois puisque c’est avec impatience que vous les attendez pour dire votre mot décisif dans notre processus de changement et de réforme. Je m’adresse à vous plutôt pour raviver votre mémoire et vous rappeler ce que nous avons tous enduré dans ce pays et toutes les tentatives dont nous faisons l’objet à tous les niveaux pour nous empêcher d’effectuer le bon choix. Les forces au pouvoir cherchent à oblitérer la mémoire du citoyen libanais et à remplacer tous les souvenirs factuels qu’elle renferme et condamne irrévocablement par des sensations primaires qui nous éloignent de l’essence même des élections visant à demander des comptes aux responsables pour avoir noyé notre société dans un bourbier de crises chroniques. Une grande partie de nos ressources humaines et matérielles a déjà été épuisée et la situation continue à se dégrader menaçant même notre société de l’effondrement total si toutes les forces vives du pays ne s’unissent pas pour se libérer du joug des factions mafieuses au pouvoir.

Treize ans auparavant, le 15 juillet 1996, je vous avais appelé à continuer à boycotter les élections parce qu’elles ne vous permettaient pas alors de choisir les personnes à même de vous représenter et de défendre vos droits. Il s’agissait plutôt d’une estampille pour corroborer un diktat et consacrer une classe politique totalement résignée et soumise à toute volonté étrangère qui arrivait à s’imposer.

Mais aujourd’hui, vous avez la chance historique de renouveler l’action démocratique et enrichir le parlement et les institutions politiques par un mode nouveau de pensée et d’action pouvant renforcer notre capacité de changement et donner de l’élan au processus de réforme.

Quant à ceux qui scandent aujourd’hui prétendument les slogans de la souveraineté, de la liberté et de l’indépendance, ce sont ceux-là mêmes qui ont été assez lâches pour les brandir face à la tutelle et qui, bien au contraire, ont défendue cette tutelle en qualifiant la perte de souveraineté de légitime, nécessaire et temporaire. Ce sont ceux-là mêmes qui ont fait du symbole de votre identité, à savoir le drapeau libanais, le baiser de Judas et alors, quiconque le portait était arrêté, emprisonné, battu et torturé.

Ce sont ceux-là même qui ont amené le pays à crouler sous les dettes, qui ont détruit les institutions de l’état pour ériger des compagnies privées sur leurs décombres et qui vous ont asservi en clients de ces compagnies tirant ainsi bénéfices de vous au lieu que vous soyez des citoyens à pleins droits. Pour toutes ces raisons, nul besoin de vous poser des questions ou de demander l’opinion de quiconque. C’est à vous que la décision appartient et c’est vous qui détenez la réponse

Il est vrai que nous sommes les pionniers du changement et de la réforme. Il est aussi vrai que malgré tous les obstacles qui ont été mis en travers de notre chemin, nous avons pu accomplir de nombreuses réalisations importantes à travers notre responsabilité au sein du parlement et du gouvernement ; cependant, le chemin reste encore long et nous avons besoin de la majorité parlementaire pour pouvoir obtenir la ratification des réformes que nous avons déjà préparées et mettre en œuvre notre programme électoral.

Ouvrez grand vos yeux et vos esprits sur ce qui vous entoure, faites le point de votre situation actuelle, essayez de voir qui pousse le pays en avant et qui le tire en arrière ; vous trouverez alors la réponse par vous-mêmes et vous arriverez sans trop d’effort à la solution. A ce moment, vous saurez s’il vous faut choisir le changement ou renouveler le mandat des forces au pouvoir !...

Oui… Que l’ouvrier parmi vous s’interroge sur ses conditions de travail actuelles. Que choisira-t-il : le changement ou la reconduction du mandat de dénégation des droits ? C’est dans sa pauvreté extrême qu’il puisera la réponse péremptoire.

Que l’industriel parmi vous s’interroge sur l’état de son industrie aujourd’hui. Que choisira-t-il : le changement ou la reconduction du mandat des requins de la finance ? C’est dans la crise industrielle dont il souffre qu’il trouvera la réponse tranchante.

Que le commerçant parmi vous s’interroge sur la situation de l’économie. Ne trouvera-t-il pas dans la récession et le marasme où elle se débat réponse à la certitude qu’il recherche ?

Que le paysan parmi vous retourne à ses champs et à ses cultures et qu’il leur demande : si je choisis de proroger l’ère de la négligence persistante, pourrais-je sauver ma production agricole de sorte qu’elle ne soit pas détruite et jetée dans les rues ? S’il obtient une réponse affirmative, qu’il opte pour la prorogation.

Que le fonctionnaire parmi vous se demande en son for intérieur : si je reconduis l’ère de la corruption, mon salaire suffira-t-il pour subvenir aux besoins de ma famille pour plus que la moitié du mois ? S’il obtient une réponse affirmative, qu’il opte pour la reconduction.

Que le contribuable parmi vous, et vous êtes tous des contribuables, s’interroge sur les taxes et les sommes exorbitantes qui lui sont imposées : si je reconduis le mandat actuel, me libérerais- je de ce poids accablant demain ? S’il obtient une réponse affirmative, qu’il opte pour la reconduction.

Que les mères et pères de famille s’interrogent sur les scolarités à venir, sur les charges de la vie demain si les mêmes forces au pouvoir étaient reconduites. Qu’ils s’interrogent sur l’avenir de leurs enfants et s’ils trouvent dans la réponse une infime lueur d’espoir d’une amélioration quelconque, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Que le chômeur parmi vous aujourd’hui se demande : la reconduction m’assurera-t-elle du travail pour mener une vie digne ? S’il obtient une réponse affirmative, qu’il opte pour la reconduction.

Que ceux parmi vous qui appartenaient jadis à la classe moyenne et qui frôlent aujourd’hui la pauvreté se demandent s’ils ont le moindre espoir de voir leur situation sociale s’améliorer sous ce mandat. S’ils obtiennent une réponse affirmative, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.
Que les plus pauvres et les plus nécessiteux se demandent si la reconduction du pouvoir actuel aujourd’hui leur épargnera l’humiliation demain. S’ils obtiennent une réponse affirmative, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Que les déplacés se rappellent ce qu’il est advenu aux promesses de retour à leurs maisons et qu’ils demandent à leurs rêves partis en cendres où en est leur espoir dans un retour digne. S’ils trouvent la réponse dans la caisse des déplacés, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Que les jeunes parmi vous s’interrogent sur l’état d’égarement et de dispersion dans lequel ils se débattent. S’ils reconduisent un pouvoir qui les a traités en un produit d’exportation, parviendront-ils à s’installer dans leur pays et à ne plus emprunter le chemin de l’émigration ? S’ils obtiennent une réponse affirmative, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Interrogez-vous sur vos ruines et vos vestiges, fierté de votre civilisation. S’ils ne sont pas sur la voie de l’anéantissement et de la disparition, optez pour la reconduction.

Interrogez-vous sur l’environnement pollué et contemplez-le : s’il ne vous semble pas en détérioration continue et abandonné à un sort inéluctable, optez pour la reconduction.

Penchez-vous sur le discours de vos dirigeants politiques sur la cohésion et l’unité nationales. S’il vous apparaît qu’ils s’y sont engagés, même imperceptiblement, optez pour la reconduction.

Demandez aux députés loyalistes actuels de vous expliquer les lois dont ils ont entravé la promulgation. Si vous arrivez à trouver dans cette entrave le moindre intérêt pour vous ou pour votre pays, optez pour la reconduction.

Demandez aux pantelants parmi eux, et à tous ceux qui gravitent autour d’eux, avides de vous représenter au parlement s’ils sont maîtres de leurs décisions. S’ils vous semblent jouir de cette liberté, optez pour la reconduction.

Que les juges s’interrogent sur la réputation de la justice. S’ils en sont satisfaits, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Que les journalistes et les professionnels des médias se demandent à quel point ils jouissent de la liberté d’expression et d’opinion. S’ils en sont satisfaits, qu’ils optent pour la reconduction.

Demandez à la Trésorerie à combien s’élève la dette publique, aussi bien interne qu’externe. S’il vous semble que vos enfants et vos grands enfants pourront la rembourser sans soumission ni aliénation, optez pour la reconduction.

Demandez à qui appartiennent les projets prodigieux en cours ? Dans l’intérêt de qui sont-ils ? Interrogez-vous sur les compagnies géantes qui ont été récemment établies, et continuent d’être établies. Si vous trouvez que les libanais en détiennent les actions et bénéficient de leur rendement, optez pour la reconduction.

Demandez aux nantis jusqu'à l’opulence et assoiffés de pouvoir par qui et pour qui dirigeront-ils le pays ? Si c’est par vous et pour vous, optez pour la reconduction.

Le Liban se trouve aujourd’hui à un croisement décisif de son histoire et de sa vie politique et nationale. Les élections que prévoient les dirigeants, avec les dispositifs et les fonds qu’ils y consacrent ainsi que le pouvoir de désinformation qu’ils y utilisent, constituent un piège hautement dangereux. Prenez garde de ne pas y succomber, évitez-le et ne laissez personne vous leurrer : ceux qui ont tenu les rênes du pouvoir pendant dix sept ans consécutifs sont incapables de changement sinon ils l’auraient réalisé. Ils sont soit incompétents ou mal intentionnés et dans les deux cas, le résultat est le même. Ce champ d’ivraie ne vous donnera pas du bon blé et dans toutes ces ronces pas un seul figuier ne poussera.

Sachez, chers compatriotes, que les ressources de l’économie libanaise sont aujourd’hui au plus bas et que l’état des finances est à la merci du volume des dépôts bancaires. En effet, la mauvaise politique financière adoptée par les forces au pouvoir et fondée sur les taxes et l’endettement à des taux d’intérêt élevés a centuplé les dettes, paralysé nos secteurs de production et transformé notre société en une société rentière.

Les expériences passées vous ont assez leurrés tout au long de dix sept ans, ne vous laissez pas leurrer pendant quatre autres années. Les élections sont prochaines et représentent une occasion de salut pour vous ; saisissez-la en optant pour le changement.

I am addressing you today not to tell you about a platform that represents your wishes and ambitions, or to remind you that the parliamentary elections are a month away, because I know you are eagerly awaiting these elections to have the final say in our change and reform mission; I am rather addressing you to revive your memory of all that we’ve been and are still going through in this country at various levels in consecutive attempts to cripple our ability to make the right decisions.


The ruling parties are doing their utmost to obliterate the memory of the Lebanese citizen and replace the facts that incriminate them with other primitive emotions that drive us away from the essence of the election principle which lies in accountability, in other terms holding officials in power accountable for drowning us in a series of chronic crises. Significant material and human resources have already been wasted and are still on a slippery slope, and might fall abruptly if the social powers are not awakened to face the control of the Mafiosi powers.


Thirteen years ago, on July 15 1996, I sent you an address asking you to continue boycotting the elections because it was not one where you could choose your true representatives but rather an election that sought your recognition of a status quo enforced on you only to consecrate a ruling power that succumbed to the will of the occupant.


Today, a historic opportunity awaits you. An opportunity that gives you the possibility to revive the democratic process and to enrich the Parliament and the political institutions with a new mentality due, in turn, to enhance our power for change and give a boost to our mission of reform. Those who are chanting today the slogan of independence, freedom and democracy are the same ones who cowardly refused to stand up to the occupier; they even defended him, thus describing the loss of sovereignty as legitimate, necessary and temporary and turning Lebanon’s flag into a Judas’ kiss arresting and torturing you every time you held it high.


They are the ones who drowned the country in debts and ruined state institutions to build their own on its rubbles and have made you, citizens, the customers of their private companies, making benefits out of you, instead of treating you as citizens with entitled rights.

This is why you should not ask anyone’s opinion regarding your choice in the upcoming elections because the answer lies in you.


It is true, we are the precursors of change and reform, and it is true that despite all the hurdles we encountered, we managed to make many achievements through our responsibilities in parliament and in ministries. But there is a lot more to be done and we need to have the majority in parliament to ratify a number of reforms and to implement our electoral platform.


So open your eyes and your minds to what lies around you and analyze what takes you backwards and what pushes your forward and you will find the answers within you and you will know whether to vote for change or for the same ruling parties.


Yes, let the worker among you ask about his working conditions, would he vote for change or renew for those who stripped him of his rights? Let his poverty give him the right answer.

Let the industrialist among you ask about his industry, would he choose change or renew for the era of wealthy magnates? Let his crippled industry give him the right answer.


Let the trader among you ask about his trade, wouldn’t its recession give him the right answer?


Let the farmer among you go back to his farmland and ask himself: If I choose to renew for a long-lasting neglect, would I save my produce from rotting away? And if the answer is yes, then he should go ahead and renew the vote.


Let the employee among you wonder: if I renew for the era of corruption, would my salary be enough to meet my family’s needs for half a month? And if the answer is yes, then he should renew the vote.


Let the taxpayer among you, and you are all taxpayers, think about the huge taxes imposed on him and ask himself: if I renew for the same ruling parties, would my tax burden be alleviated tomorrow? If the answer is yes, then he should renew the vote.


Let the mothers and fathers among you ask about their children’s future and schooling fees, and about the financial burden of everyday life. If they find a ray of hope for improvement in renewing for the same ruling class, then let them renew the vote.


Let the unemployed among you ask himself: would my voting for the same ruling parties make me earn a decent living? If the answer is yes, then he should renew the vote.


Let the middle class people who have reached the poverty line ask if they are hopeful that their situation would improve under this rule? If the answer is yes, then they should renew the vote.


Let the poor and the deprived ask if they would get rid of their poverty if they vote for the same ruling parties? If the answer is yes, then they should renew the vote.


Let the displaced that are still unable to return to their hometowns ask the rubbles about a hope of return and if they do find this hope in the fund for the displaced, then they should renew the vote.


Let the youth among you ask themselves, in their situation of loss and disorientation, whether their vote for the ruling parties would lead them to stability and prevent them from immigrating? If the answer is yes, then they should renew the vote.


Ask about your heritage and if you don’t find out that it’s on its way to destruction, renew the vote.


Ask about your polluted environment and check it out, and if its pollution is not increasing, renew the vote.


Listen to the speeches of the ruling parties about the need for national reconciliation and if you find that they have taken even a small step towards this aim, renew the vote.


Ask the current MPs of the majority to tell you about the bills they blocked and if you see in their prevention any interest for you or your country, renew the vote.


Ask those chasing parliamentary seats at any cost about their free decision-making, and if you find that they have it, then renew the vote.


Let the judges ask about the reputation of their judiciary and if they are happy with the answer, then they should renew the vote.


Let the journalists ask themselves how free their pens and their opinions are and if they are happy with the answer, then they should renew the vote.


Ask about the State finances, about the internal and external public debt, and if you find that your children and your children’s children will be able to pay it back without submission of any kind, then renew the vote.


Ask about the huge projects. Whose are they? And whose interests do they benefit? Ask about the big companies that were established recently? And if you find that they belong to the Lebanese people and that they are of benefit to them, then renew the vote.


Ask the over-wealthy eager to seize power, with whom and for whom do they rule? If the answer is with you and for you, then renew the vote.


Today, Lebanon is at a crucial crossroads of its history and national political life. These elections prepared by the ruling parties and fed by colossal amounts of money and by media that only distorts facts could be a dangerous trap. So watch out and don’t let anyone lure you into believing that those who ruled Lebanon for 17 consecutive years are able to change because if they were, they would have already done so. So they are either incompetent or ill intentioned and the outcome is just the same.


You should know that the Lebanese economy is at the brink of total collapse, ailing to a dangerous extent and the financial situation hinges on bank deposits. The disastrous financial policies that the ruling parties have adopted based on taxes and high-interest loans have increased the debt, crippled productive sectors, and turned our society into one that needs to beg for a living.


The experiences you have been through for the last 17 years have badly scarred you, but you don’t have to remain on the same path for yet another four years. The elections are ahead of you and they are your only salvation, so seize this opportunity, make the right choice, and vote for change.
