As for our topic, well, there are some profile tests that you can take online that'll help direct you to your suitable major... my mom made me take one right after highschool, and I was impressed by how accurate the results were. The majors that suited me the most were: English Language, advertising design, and psychology. I love all three a lot, and I would have excelled in any! I'll post you a link to one of these as soon as I obtain a moderator's approval.

I just finished my first year in biology, but I'm REALLY lost on what do in the future. Medicine is still in my mind, but it's too expensive, and I'm not sure that I'd like it. I really like scientific academic research, so I'm now concentrating to be a researcher, but I don't know how my personal life would be.. especially that most of the time I'd spend would be in the lab

So I'd appreciate it if I can get an advice from someone who's in that field.

for those planning on studying in the US after finishing high school in lebanon, make sure you ask about the advanced placement program since we take courses in high school that are considered advanced in american universities so you can actually earn some extra credits.
and for those considering medicine you should know that it's more about being commited to people than actually liking science. science is just for the classroom but your whole mindset should become that of one who likes volunteering (which is actually a requirement in the american pre-med program) and one who doesn't mind always being there for others. it's selflessness at its peak along with liking to work (and study) under pressure. medicine is a commitment and your job will always come first, also the studying never ends because you have to be up to date with all the health fields. i know i make it sound bad but it's not, you should just know what you want your priorities to be in life, it's not a regular job.

Hey unknown, I'm majoring in Computer Applications, along with a minor in Economics. Also, I intend to master in Management once I graduate.

Here's the thing, I think a background in Economics is a very important component if you want to be a businessman somewhere down the road, but from what I learned talking to advisors and consultants, Majoring in Economics isn't the greatest of ideas, there are not many career opportunities in the field, and most times, you're better off in Business Administration. Employers tend to appreciate it more than economics, which is seen as a mere collection of theories.

My advice to you, if you've got to make a choice among the two, go with business, but if possible, do maintain a solid base in economics.

well Jorge, i guess i can help a bit. I am currently doing my PhD in Clinical Chemistry with Molecular Medicine specializattion at Cleveland State University. I got my BS in Medical Laboratory Technology from AUB, and my MS in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Westminster in London, UK.
I c ur lost in whether to do Medicine or whether to go into research. Well for me, i wasnt really into medicine, i never liked it. My roommates and most of my friends are MDs, but am happy i didnt chose that path.
a PhD in molecular biology, wouldnt be a bad idea, u will have the option to work in research, in the medical field, or in pharmaceutical companies.
However if u choose research, its a very stressful lifestyle, especially in the US, cos u will always be after Grants, thats how researchers survive. I wouldnt wanna lead the same lifestyle that my supervisor leads. thats why when am done, am gonna head either into industry, medical field, or pharmaceuticals.
However, there is one field that u can look at, which is in between Medicine and Biology, which is Pharmacy. Pharmacy is a good idea, u take some prerequisites while ur getting ur Biology degree, then apply for pharmacy schools. In 7 years (3biology+4 Pharmacy) u will have earned a PharmD (Dr. in Pharmacy) and their will be a 100K/yr job waiting for u when u graduate. There is a lot of demand on Pharmacists in the US, that they r recruiting from all over the world/ I have a lot of friends that are PharmDs, they came to the US to work after graduating. Its the only major in Lebanon, that u will be able to go work in the US, without even coming to the US to continue ur studies. ya3ne straight from leb.
Since ur in NJ u wont have such a problem.
Anyways, if u need anything PM me, and i will be glad to help. If u want leave me ur phone number as well, and we can discuss that over the phone if u want to.
