Hello everyone :-)
Yesterday,I got my SAT result from Collegeboard, and this was the result:
Critical Reading: 630
Maths: 590
Writing: 650
and so the total is out of 2400, I got 1870 out of 2400!
This is my first try,and I'm going to Grade 12 so university is soon, and I don't live in Lebanon but I hope to finally go back home and study there, and I'm just curious if this is an acceptable score in Lebanese universities? :-)
I know many here are university and school students in Lebanon who might know about this, and I hope to just get some helpful information for now
Your honesty is truly appreciated! =)

Critical reading?
I remember it was English and Maths only and each is on 800. Is it a new system drinkaholic?
I remember I got:
English: 450/800 (which was not acceptable for AUB, they needed 500, so I had to do the EEE english test there, and I aced it, allowing me even to skip an english course)
Maths: 710/800
Total: 1160/1600
But they only cared about my maths score for engineering, and i was accepted on that basis. If I didn't do the EEE well I would have entered in intensive english courses but still would be admitted.
So work on the maths! | | | | | Registered Member

Oh and by the way, it's better if you do the test several times for the reason that they take the highest grade of each, for example if you got:
Test 1:
English 600
Maths 400
Test 2:
English 400
Maths 600
They will count that you got English 600 and Maths 600 by taking the highest grade from each section. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Well, to be honest, 590 in Math is not that good. You can easily get a 700!
The key is to practice, practice and practice!
Get a good SAT book and concentrate on Math (this was my case, I don't know which university you will apply to).
As CPL said, take the test as much as you can.. and don't worry, you will score higher next time! | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Yeah same here, I did it when there was just English and Maths, each out of 800. I remember that I did it once or twice... 800 on maths and 620 on english...
Your english marks are pretty good, you might wanna work on your maths, but then again it depends on what you wanna study. Also, not all universities in Lebanon require SAT. | | | | | Registered Member

Hi guys!
Thanks for your replies
Actually, yeah, haha,it has changed now,it has become 3 sections: Critical reading, writing and maths - all out of 800,making the new SAT out of 2400!
I think it was renewed in 2005.
Well I noticed too that Maths wasn't too good, but I wasn't sure what to do (if to repeat it to increase the maths or just leave the mark as it is) because i'm in the 'Literature' section (adabi) and I'm hoping to study either economics, political science or mass communication (media)! So do these majors need a higher maths score anyway?
Thanks alot again! | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Thanks alot again! | I wouldn't think the majors you mentioned need a higher Maths score, but I could be wrong. You might wanna contact AUB and simply ask. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Thanks alot again! | You should not care about the minimum score in Math in order to be accepted in your major. Do your best in Math! Practice as much as you can and go for it. As I said, a 700 in Math is easy to get.
Sit for it as many times as you can, the higher you score in Math or English, the more likely you'll be accepted. | | | | | Registered Member

Thanks very much! | First of all i never knew that they took SATs for colleges in lebanon this is how closed in we are in the US. lol
I know exactly what youre talking about with the three sections because i just took them twice. I am also going to be in grade 12. I dont know if this will help, but in some really good colleges here the avg. range of SAT scores accepted is in the 1800's.
But try to take them as much as you can. ive already taken them twice.
I took the Psats and from that score to my first SAT score i have about a 400 pt increase. And then from my first SAT score to my second one i also had another 200-300 point increase. And i plan to take them one more time just to see how much better i can do, but ive been told that my last score was really good.
As someone else said its all PRACTICE. and they are out there to trick you. I took a prep course and thats all they told us. They want to trick you lol. Practice as much as you can and in they end remember colleges arent going to just look at your SAT score, your GPA and class rank do count too and so much more.
Good luck :) | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

As far as I know, AUB is the only university in Lebanon where the SAT is a requirement for admission.
I think your scores are definitely more than enough for politicial science.
For economics, I'm not so sure. You might want to try to get a higher score on Math. And I don't really recommended it if you don't have a solid background in Math because you'll have to take some not-so-easy Math courses like 201 (calclulus), 218 (linear algebra), and 202 (differential equations).
I don't think AUB has a "mass communication" major. | | | | | | |
