Hello,

I am interested in knowing the total fees which a patient should pay if he/she visits a psychiatrist here in Lebanon, from the first visit to specifying the needed drug...

*Do a psychiatrist specify the drug from the first visit ?
*Is it possible to do so if the disorder is clear and no physical symptons at all which does not require scanning and graphical things ?

I really appreciate your replies ( specially if they were from psychiatrists here on the board )

- hi i think usually the fees are almost 50$ per session
- there are some psychiatrists who prescribe directly drugs from the first time nut this is a big error even if the disorder is clear!!(you have to watch out because even some famous psychiatrists do this, and it's not right)
- sometimes the patient does'nt need drugs, depending on the problem a psychologist,orthophonist or psychomotrician can do the job

So the session is for 50$, even if it was the very first session ?

I mean, I know a neurologist/psychiatrist, if I visited him without an appointment, is it possible for him to prescribe directly the drug needed for treatment since i know exactly what my disorder is, and i can explain to him why i dont need a psychologist or a psychoanalyst, because all what I need is the antidepresseur, and as you know you can't buy it without a prescription... ?

So will he charges directly 50 $ for the prescritipn ? and then 50 $ for each visit; to follow up with the medicament ?

i'm not a psychiatrist, i'll ask and bring u the answer tomorrow,
but be careful, when u take an antidepresseur you can't stop whenever you want, u become dependant of it and it has side effects

I am sorry asd but I meant it as a joke. Kevorkian is a Dr here in the US who worked on the so called euthanasia. I am sorry.

and by the way, les antidepresseurs are not addictive, specially those who belong to the SSRI class ( Selective Serotonine Reuptake Inhibitors ), instead there are some withdrawal symptons which last for a week usually, so the patient may think that these symptons are happening to him/her due to the stoppage of taking the medication, so the bottom line is that taking any psychological drug requires a psychiatrist management...

A psychiatrist can, on the first visit, give you a sample pack of drugs to start on, until the next visit.. it depends on whether your problem is too complicated to be identified from the first visit. but because these drugs are usually prescribed for a number of different problems, they can start you on a drug they think might help you and change it later.

um, well, while it is true that you can't stop it all of a sudden if you are on heavy dosage, small dosages (which is how they start off with) are not a problem and you can stop whenever you want, unless you are taking multiple types of drugs.. it's also a myth that you become dependent on them. i've been on heavy dosages of different types of anti-depressants and I never was dependent on them in the addiction sense of the word.
