Default MIS - Management Information System: better than Accounting? - 28th May 2008

We have a family business and I'm running late with my degree. I wanna take two summers and finish by the coming fall semester, but LAU doesn't have any Accounting major courses for the summer on offer, and since I'm mostly left with my major courses, I was thinking about doing something else, mainly MIS.

I really need your advice on this guys. If you have other suggestions, please submit as well. Much thanks in advance.

If you're thinking of managing your family business, then accounting would be useful unless you already took some courses about it. You have to weigh the importance for you of graduating this fall, if that is of relatively high importance then taking that MIS course and getting that degree at the soonest seems like the logical choice.

MIS is a specialized degree. Accounting degree will open more doors for you in the intermediate and long run in different fields such as audit, tax, financial services, banking, consultation, assurance services…).

JR, accounting is specialized as well, plus the man was mentioning a single course

I was bit puzzled by the original post. I read certain part incorrectly, not to say the post was not clear in the first place.
For example,

“wanna take two summers”
I interpreted two summers as summer 08 and summer 09 not as two summer sessions in 2008….I read “coming fall” as following fall. I assumed a mistake by the poster.

“I'm mostly left with my major courses”

I interpreted as took all general courses and trying to decide on Accounting or MIS as majors.

The poster did not mention his major which led me to believe the poster is looking for a major.

Major misinterpretation from my end.

Five years in public accounting is a key to any field in the business world…

After SOX, the CFO is more likely to be an accountant rather then MBA holder
