Well if you live in Belgium it's always best to know dutch. Unless you live in "ta profonde wallonnie"

How are you gonna learn it? School? Evening school? And why? Work or again school or univ?

I learned it when I was 4, during the war we came here for a year or 2. Plus, my mom is flemish so...

eh your mother is flemish so akid you speak dutch!

no i live in brussels so i have to learn dutch!
one thing i regret is that i took german instead of dutch at univ!
so i'll take night classes at Marie Haps starting september!
why..because if i'm planing on staying here, i'd better speak Dutch!!
but i was told it's not complicated specially if you can speak english... i think it's somehow true since i've never took Dutch classes but i manage to understand certain things sometimes.

Your reaction is always welcome. We could disagree politically and could have religious / cultural differences, but we are still all brothers and sisters in humanity, No?

My languages: wlak ana anja2 mkhallis bel 3arabeh

But I am fully fluent with the following exotic languages: Martian, Zoulou-of-the-Andes, Kolaristanian, and most importantly - Jarjouristanian (language of the mice)! I have also a working knowledge of Zghertewi!

Serious note - French, Arabic, English, Dutch and a bit of Russian and German!

yes true! if you don't practice it you will tend to forget it! even though it's not really that hard to learn!!! as i said in my first post i created a mini japan around me! so i'm constantly exposed to that language! besides you should see how at japanese restaurants they tend to become very generous if you order in japanese

why did you stop??

mata atode ;)

well you should continue!! it's very interesting!! specially the kanjis! :p
like for instance, we always hear the word kamikaze, which now has a rather pejorative meaning..bass when i was learning how to write it, i found that it's the combination of Kami (God) and Kaze (Wind)..very beautiful.

or the verb to rest/go on vacation : combination of a tree and a man . heheh e3id ta7t el shajra, ya3ne on vacation!!
there's even funnier one!
combination of woman+ broom + food = good wife lool
wife 3al 7el, would be the same combination but without the food!! lol
so a good wife is one who can cook!

oh yes, and the verb chatting is written when you combine three kanjis of woman! lol

so i strongly recommend you to learn nihongo!

totemo omoshiroi desu ne!! :)

Wow seems like we have some language virtuosos in here. What I can suggest is that, if someone knows a language well, open a thread, and start teaching basic alphabet, grammar, words, expressions. There's nothing more satisfying for a Lebanese to know everything!!

So...who's first?
