I am not seeking to work in China but over europe, knowing exotic language is a criteria for recruiters to give you a job! Especially now, they are asking more and more for Chinese and Japanese.
Even if i will never use it, it is a very good plus in a CV because nowadays all the students have degrees and it is your originality and your personnality which will help you to take the job! And now after asking several CEO in france, they encourage me to go through chinese because it is a good tool to find a job and a plus because taking italian is so familiar so it won't be a plus!
Then beginning at the same time italian and Spanish will be a real catastrophe cuz ha khabbes it's so similar! So once i will know how to speak spanish, i will atack italian...
That's all....
This is great then!!! You should go with what you think is best for you and make the best out of it!!!

I guess it all depends of your major and your field of work.

Languages teach people to think outside the box. I cannot imagine myself not being at least bi-lingual. In the States, it was always difficult trying to explain odd concepts in grammar to my students, because most of them do not know any other language than English. Languages expand the horizons of the mind, and allow people to better understand different concepts.

For example, while explaining a certain Quran Verse to Americans, I point out to them that in Arabic we have two synonyms for the word "Son," while in English there is only one (hence son of God cannot cannot be translated to Arabic as "Walad Allah" but rather "Ibn Allah"--difference in the meaning of the synonyms)... it always proves difficult to make them understand what that means... :S ALAS!!!! The narrow-mindedness of mono-linguals :P:D

I speak french(french educated), Arabic, English and little bit of italian coz I learned it before going there.. and unfortunately didn't practice it anymore later on.
It's an amazing language because the accent is so classy... Makes you feel like singing the words.
I used to love arabic back at school.. but I don't practice it that much in university.. so Writing in arabic is something I dont do very often anymore.
As for french, its litterature is certainly huge and rich.. but I find myself better in english..

Well I speak Portuguese well, because I was born in BRazil.
I know how to speak Arabic (with little accent), and English.
Portuguese (Brazilian) is a very fun language to speak, that's my own opinion.
If you know Portuguese you can understand 70% spanish :D
For me English is the best when it comes to business and travelling.
I never had the interest to learn French, although it is still important. French language is loosing its importance worldwide little by little while English and Spanish languages are replacing it.
Many people say French language is a language of Love. Well I do not agree on that since english can be used perfectly when it comes to love. :P
