Default Computer Science , Business Computing... - 2nd November 2006

Hello, I'm New In Here...
My Name Is Raed, I'm Now In Terminal - SE Section , I Was Wondering If I Can Apply For The Computer Science Major At LU If I Were SE At Terminal ? Can I ?

And The Second Question Is About Business Computing ? Is It Close To Computer Science ? Is It The Same As MIS ? Cheers

Welcome Deplorableness,
I am not quite familiar with the termininologies of the new schooling system; i guess SE stands for Sciences et Economie, right ?

To apply for the Business computing major (LU) , there are no restrictions on the kind of the major you hold from the terminale.
You simply have to be holding a Bacc II major. the question should be whether the formation you got in the SE section makes you ready to pass the entry exams or not.

Welcome to the forum Raed,

I can help you about the business computing at lebanese University:

1- The entry exam will include mathematics from the SV and SG program and it's not easy at all.

2- The courses at the first 2 years are general to all sections: Finance, Marketing and Computing,
and will include accounting, economy, statistics, Law, and a little of computer courses (like basic of computer, little of networks, algorithm, word, excel, ....and more easy stuff).
3- At the end of the 2nd year you can choose what section u want to go : Finance, Marketing or Computing
4- On the 3rd year you still take business courses including statistics, economy...but more computing (like database, more Programming languages like C++ and java..., algorithm,,..)

So you can see the difference between business computing and computer science. Computer Science is more specific to computer and network stuff.

Hope i could help you a little bit.
Good luck

But The Business Computing Math Entrance Test Is Based On SE ( because you are applying for the faculty of economics & business administration ) So It Is A SE Level , But My Question Is " Do They Allow SE ( Socio-Economics ) Students To Continue With The Computer Science Major ?

I started majoring in Computer Sciences, but I did not like it at all despite passing my courses. I didnt not like it because I didnt feel myself satisfied sitting on a PC and started coding for hours.
I felt myself better in the business world. I love computers. So I transfered to MIS major.
As a graduate of MIS, I can say,
The benefit of MIS: you know business + IT.
The disadvantage of MIS: it covers everything in general. doesn't deeply concentrate in the IT or business field.

Well i used to ask the same questions before applying to university.
MIS is more like business computer. MIS is more professional though, since it covers more about management.
IT is not MIS.
IT = hardware and software. If you major in IT they wont teach you business as they teach in MIS. You will be taught programing and hardware.
MIS = people, data resources, hardware, software, and telecommunication. MIS talks about how can we manage those 5 entities together in a business.... more over, MIS is a field which helps the application of information technology/information systems in a business, so that the business will reach its strategy.

Well i dont know anything about LU and Lebanese system, I did high school and then freshman. So you gotta ask someone who know better than me anout CS in LU.
