Default Re: Abortion - 12th February 2005

I support abortion rights, i think a woman should have a right to chose what to do. I would not like to be pregnant and not ready to have a baby and be forced to have it, we all make mistakes. Just because i approve of abortion doesn't mean i think everybody should do it and that it should be a form of birth control but i dont' think the state should tell people that it is illegal to have an abortion. I dont' think it is great and i dont' really like it but i think a woman should have a right to choose. I look at it like divorce, even though it is different and doesn't involve a life, i look at it legally and womans rights, i dont' like divorce and don't think people should be divorcing left and right but a woman should have a right to choose wheter she wants a divorce or not, all i'm saying is that women should have the right, just like i don't like the gov't not allowing women to divorce i dont' want the gov't telling women they can't have an abortion.

I think in order to prevent abortion, there should be programs teaching men and women about safe sex, providing education, counselling and that if a woman does get preganant there should be programs to help the women during pregnancy and after the baby is born. The problem is many people are against abortion and want to save the babies life but when the baby is born they dont' give a **** what happens to it, whether the baby is living in poverty, bad environment, dangerous areas, people dont' think the gov't should spend money on this and that for women.

I find many of the anti-abortion people to be hypocrites, they care about an unborn baby but when the baby is born they don't care about it anymore or if it is going to live a good life. Also many of the religious people who are against abortion or people who are aginst abortion for religious reasons don't want the gov't spending money on programs for sex education or don't believe in birth controll pills and other contraception, you can't have it both ways, if you don't want people to have abortion (you can never stop it but at least lower it) you have to provide birth control, condoms, education, programs for teens, jobs so people will not hang in the streets and do nothing, after school programs for teenagers to spend time, etc, etc.

lebgirl, do u mean that the baby in the first 2 months is not considered as a living creature?? how can u prove it?
i believe he contains spirit as any other person and killing it would be like killing an ordinary person.

AGAINST, it is a sin... Everybody has the choice, do the right one before not after you take action. It should be allowed in too cases : threat on mother life, and rape.
All the rest is not acceptable, it is a sin, it is not about rights it is about life,
It is not about Freedom it is about DEATH

Against abortion. My reasons are not religious, btw.

I don't think it's a "sin" (well, forgive me, I am an agnostic), but I think it is a violation of the natural right to life.

Also, my stance on abortion is not necessarily 100% against. I think that if there is a huge chance the mother might die, abortion should be allowed, but if not and it's simply because the mother does not want the child, then no. Because it can set dangerous precedents to state-supported ignorance and irresponsibility.

Many women get pregnant due to rapes, many keep the child until it is "born" and then give him/her up for adoption.

At any rate, it's a personal choice, and I don't think personal choices should in any way play with the life of a human being. I mean, what if I decide that I don't want my kid from say my ex-wife anymore, and go ahead and kill it? Will that be right? It's a personal choice for sure. And the kid might remind me every day for the rest of my life of the ex-wife that I hated so much (to whom I was married perhaps by parental pressure?)....

It does not make it "OK", does it...

Right, but let's say this rape happened to a non-married woman in a Middle Eastern country. She really has no choice because of the "shame", even though it wasn't her fault. She simply cannot be pregnant and non-married in our society.

Another question: what if a fetus was discovered to have some horrible disease?
