Around 40 Million people around the world are living with HIV (2,800 in Lebanon according to the CIA world factbook), and this number is increasing every day. Ignorance and prejudice are fueling the spread of a preventable disease.
World AIDS day is a day when people from all around the world come together within a single effort. The global theme for this year's World AIDS day is accountability and its slogan is "Stop AIDS, keep the promise". This day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and AIDS. This year, it's up to you, me and us to stop the spread of HIV. Get involved, there are many ways in which you can do so. No matter how you decide to mark the day, you can help by taking action:
- Wear a red ribbon - The red ribbon has been an international symbol of HIV for fifteen years. Wear one as a sign that together we CAN stop the spread of HIV and end prejudice. Wearing a red ribbon is one of the easiest ways you can make a difference on 1 December. Not just by wearing one yourself, but also encouraging your friends, colleagues and family to wear one as well.
- Talk to people - Help prevent millions of deaths from AIDS every year, spread the facts about this disease, help creating a more AIDS aware society, test people's knowledge.
- Get involved in events - By attending or organizing an event, you can help spread the word and break the silence on HIV.
- Donate - Your donation will make a tremendous difference to people living with and affected by HIV.
This year, Médecins Sans Frontières is launching a
small commercial length film produced by Belgian advertising agency Duval Guillaume Brussels.
