Default Work from home, any tips? - 7th October 2009

Hello there,

I started working from home since about two weeks; it's really relaxing and fun and way more productive.

That positive side also has a negative part which is bothering me a lot.
I have no specific schedule and i am not able to maintain one.
I work for 2 hours then stop for another 2 hours, sleep, work, take a bath, work... It's so messed up.

I know I'm gonna get things in order, i am just looking for some tips of how to organize my time when working from home from people who passed in such situation.

Thanks in advance

Working from home is surely a luxury,

Many would love to have have your "problems".

The negatives are very common, but here are some tips you can use.

The room:

It's a good idea to have a dedicated room. Might be tough, but having an "office" at home is a must where you close the door to keep disturbence out.
The room should have only business related equipment, PC, printer...etc. But no TV, playstion or anything.

You have to tell people in the house not to disturb you while you are in the office. If you have a personal mobile phone, turn it off or silent is the best bet.
Make a habit of starting your shift at a certain time, give yourself a 15 minute break every 2 hours where you LEAVE your desk, stretch or walk down to the street to get a juice from a store and use personal mobile/check messages (not face book)

The key is to stay away from "addiction". Facebook, personal webpages, myspace...are all time consuming and addicting.

Lunch is where you can eat at home, you can read websites while you eat, but dont exceed 1 hour. Force yourself back to work at 1:00. Its also a good idea to walk to lunch where you can have a salad outside your house. Walking is a great way to relax your brain and give your body some break from sitting all this time.

I personally do not listen to music when I work, others do. But I find it distracting.

Remember, you are working, friends and family should not bother you.

Enjoy!

Hye

Nice ! i do not know what is your reasons that lead you to work from home.
But working from home has its advantages and disadvantages:
I will sum up just a few important factors:
you need to be
-focused : what you want and why?
-organized : follow a plan, steps
-and consistent : maintain the above.
