I still remember it too... I remember how much I prefered to hear the Parables to the tipical fairy tails like Snow White, etc. Children of nowdays like the Parables as much the children of Jesus's time. Remember they were always around Jesus (that's why the Apostles pushed them away...)
There's something in the parables that touch the heart. Maybe because we see ourselves in each parable. A great friend of mine likes to tell me "In the Gospel you'll find all the answers for everything. You just have to Read the words of Jesus with your Heart" and she is right.

I couldn't explain it better than this.

Jesus always ask us to act as children, he wants our hearts to be same as children very pure, very innocent and full of love and forgiveness.

He called a little child, whom he placed among them. And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes a humble place—becoming like this child—is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. (Matthew 19 : 2-5)

Parable of the Blind Men and the Elephant.

the awakened one tells the story of a raja (king) who had six blind men gathered together to examine the elephant. <dl><dd>"When the blind men had felt the elephant, the raja went to each of them and said to each, 'Well, blind man, have you seen the elephant? Tell me, what sort of thing is an elephant?'</dd></dl> They assert the elephant is like a pot (head), winnowing basket (ear), ploughshare (tusk), plough (trunk), grainery (body), pillar (foot), mortar (back), pestle (tail), or brush (tip of the tail).
The men come to blows, which delights the raja. The raja says:
<dl><dd>O how they cling and wrangle, some who claim</dd><dd>For preacher and monk the honored name!</dd><dd>For, quarreling, each to his view they cling.</dd><dd>Such folk see only one side of a thing.</dd></dl>

When mind is less polluted, realizing profoundness is easier and more natural. Many meditations or schools focus on demining the mind, dissecting the pollutants, removing the conditionings for one to see, realize truth. its always been there.. the IDEA of searching for it becomes an obstacle, its already there
and Jesus was talking to those ppl the ppl with simple pure hearts like children because only with this heart you can hear and understand the words of God ....

The Parable of the lost sheep tells so much about Jesus: He died for us, for ALL of us, without exception. There is no man by whom Christ did not suffer (how comforting this is)
