Default strong personality v/s weak personality - 28th September 2007

we often hear people say: "this person has a very strong personality" or "it's his fault, he has such a weak personality!"...

but can you define the components of a strong personality and the symptoms of a weak one, especially that many values are misconceived these days?

Sometimes a strong personality means an ugly and violent temper, someone who is excessively controlling, someone who doesn't listen, someone who has too big an ego and who thinks he or she is the only one who deserves to be at the top.

So strong personality is not necessarily a good thing. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin... all had strong personalities.

Better than "strong" personality is a "charming" personality like Bill Clinton. A charming personality tends to be strong without having the negative sides of a purely strong personality. It is open to other people's opinions, in particular. It listens then make a judgment (rather make a judgment before listening).

I agree that what you described is a bad thing but who says these are criteria of a strong personality? that's exactly why i opened the thread, i mean some characters are considered by some to be strong while to me it's a huge misconception... yalleh bi sarrikh w byenfe3il is not someone with a strong personality but someone who has inner peace w ma bi hezzo shi barraneh is a strong person, don't you think?

I totally agree.
I was just disagreeing on the definition of "strong" personality.
I think you mean "strong but positive personality."
Because it can be a strong but negative personality like Mussolini.

so I prefer to use charismatic, charming, instead of strong. But perhaps you are right with your definition. I don't know.
