Default Religion and Blind Faith: Luxury or Necessity? - 7th September 2009

Religion and Blind Faith: Luxury or Necessity?

I found Bill Maher’s movie 'Religulous' ideal to start a discussion about this sensitive subjected because he didn’t target one specific faith. Instead, he suggested we should be more skeptical about irrational religious stories that seem to be socially irrelevant not to mention instances where they become harmful and counter productive. He believes those who came up with such stories are not necessarily smarter than most of us. His main argument is if you don’t know the truth try not inventing it.
At least, one good thing comes out of this movie which is all the religious people from all sects will, for a once, unite together against Bill Maher instead off attacking one another other.

Please watch at least the first clip with Larry King and tell us if you agree or don’t agree with him.
If you don’t agree, can you be specific to why?

Religion is the opium of the people, the more religious they become, the wierdest they become.

I am talking here about all religions alike, not a single one of them.

I think that’s an ingenious sentence by Karl Marx that can be interpreted in many different ways.
Most consider Opium a bad word but we should never dismiss its benefits.
I agree with you as far as living and breathing religion to a point where people become extreme in opposite directions. Some become vegetables, others become violent but either way, they start losing touch with reality. And when that happens, they become easily manipulated by the few smart elites. (Neo cons)

i resent that

me worshipping jessica alba and the ground she walks on has nothing to do with delirium and everything to do with hard cold religious facts

i'm writting a new holy book about it right now for that matter

and i intend to teach it to receptive small children too to mess up their ability of sane logic when they grow up

Based on your assessment there is more than one God; yours is Jessica and Shev’s is Yvonne…. And both of them are females which I don’t mind at all…

Religion and blind faith.... two expressions that, logically, can't go together because simply each religion urges its followers to seek knowledge, including studying (maybe not thoroughly) other religions in order to prove to yourself that the religion you've chosen is the one that will lead you to heaven .

it is well noted that the extremists in all religions are of the blind-faith school followers. this is not a brainer.
