Default The real reasons your soo moody!! - 9th March 2007

Do you get violent moody swings ?? Its a medical condition You know ..
Ever find yourself flying off the handle at the teeniest thing to the extent that you surprise yourself , not to mention your cowering partner??? well, its not just coz you were born an easily irritated person.'Your mood is largely dependent on the chemicals whizzing round your brain'. These are influenced by everything from the foods you eat to the amount of sleep you've had,so can easily become unbalanced and cause bad mood swings. The good news is theres plenty you can do to get these things back on an even keel ..
BLAME IT ON... YOUR STRESS LEVELS ...
'When you feel up against it ,levels of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline rise ,triggering your body's fight or flight reflex...Your heart increases and your bloodpressure soars as your body prepares to tackle a physical threat . But if the stress lasts longer than a few minutes ,hormones build up,leaving you feeling ready to blow your top'..
BEAT IT BY...
Exercising -whether by walking away from your desktop or doing a few stretches on the floor . This will help your body to break away the stress hormones , returning you to a more relaxed calmer state ...
BLAME IT ON .....LOW BLOOD SUGAR...
Do you get irritable before lunchtime and moody come 5 o'clock???
These are key times for your blood -sugar levels to drop. If you leave more than 3 hours between meals ,your brain sends a sugnal to your adrenal glands to release the hormone cortisol .It then shuts down non-essential functions (like patience)and you become short tempered.
BEAT IT BY....
Eat slow-burning foods ,like porridge, wholemeal bread and pasta, every 3 to 4 hours .And keep some brazil nuts in your pockets for emergency blood-sugar slumps ...
BLAME IT ON....YOUR THYROID
If suffering from bad mood swings you could have an over active thyroid gland ..This means your thyroid couldbe producing too much of the hormone thyroxine ,which will make your anxiety levels rocket and leave you on the edge ...
BEAT IT BY....
Ablood test will determine whether your levels of thyroxine are too high .. The condition can somtimes clear up by it self ,but you may need medication to slow your thyroid down...
BLAME IT ON ...BEIN KNACKERED ....
Lack of sleep can reduse the levels of the feel-good chemical serotonin in your brain ,lowering your mood and making it feel ratty.. As serotonin is also responsible for the production of melatonin (the hormone that makes you sleep ),this can mean you struggle to get to sleep the following night ,which lowers your serotonin levels further and makes you grumpier ...
BEAT IT BY......
Going to bed and getting up at the same time everyday . Even if you cant get some sleep at first,it will help regulate your levels of melatonin and establish a healthier sleep pattern...

Thanks for the tips Di! really helpful....

Well to be honest, this didn't help me to beat my "moody mood" (cause am always in good mood ) as much as it helped understanding the mood variations for other human beings i live with!

I tried this.. and it works ! I sleep at 3 am, wake up at 8.45 doesn't really help with the morning headache, yet it gives me a sleepy mood all day long, enough to make feel unwilling to fight with anyone !
