Default Porn dominates Saudi mobile use - 29th April 2007

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=629 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD colSpan=3>Porn dominates Saudi mobile use

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA --><!-- S SF -->Up to 70% of files exchanged between Saudi teenagers' mobile phones contain pornography, according to a study in the ultra-conservative Muslim kingdom.
The study quoted in Arab News focussed on the phones of teenagers detained by religious police for harassing girls.
The same researcher also found that 88% of girls say they have been victims of harassment using Bluetooth technology. Saudi Arabia has toughened penalties for misuse of mobile phones which challenge its strict social traditions. <!-- E SF -->
"The flash memory of mobile phones taken from teenagers showed 69.7% of 1,470 files saved in them were pornographic and 8.6% were related to violence," said report author Professor Abdullah al-Rasheed.
He presented his study at a seminar organised by the King Fahd Security Academy, Arab News reports.
Public social contact between genders is banned in public in Saudi Arabia, which enforces a strict interpretation of Islamic law and morality. But the spread of Bluetooth technology, allowing wireless connection between mobile phones, has allowed for increased opportunities of communication as well as abuse by predatory young men. <!-- E BO -->

How pathetic is that? Wouldn't be better if they simply updated their laws? I guess human nature trumps stupid religious rules everytime.

I think the study is not accurate, the real percentage is 100% !

In saudi arabia, the only way a guy can meet a girl is through bluetooth, so you see everyone in Malls around riyadh opening bluetooth and sending messages to girls, if the girl gets back with a message containing her phone number, the guy is considered to have scored and they call it "Raggam" (رقم), the guys go to the mall for the purpose of "Targeem", or collecting girls phone numbers .

Obviously since Bluetooth was a major success in saudi arabia, teens use it to swap video clips rangining from porn clips, to arabised japanese anime videos, to violant videos, personally i have very strange videos on my mobile, local one's, in one video a saudi citizin seduces a Dog with a piece of chicken, only to put some benzene on him and burn him, with his friends watching and laughing, thats the idea of a joke apparently for those people !

another video titled "Saudi skating" includes teens stepping outside a speeding car on a highway (the car must be running at least 80Km/hr), to use their slippers for skating ! some very dangeruos stunt indeed .

Porn clips spread like fire in the country, the most famous two are probably the alleged "Nancy ajram" and "Haifa wehbe" clips.

It's very Normal. In Suadi Arabia, men are at allowed to touch girls, men are not allowed to see girls without hijap, men are not allowed to talk to girls, and men there don't know anything about girls..... So, it is very normal to have people like that in an abnormal country like that...

It is common everywhere actually, not just in KSA.

But what makes it extra interesting in KSA, that this shows only how hypocrate the regime is, and how frustrated the men are!
