I agree with the perspective of coralie.
The OT is full of preperation/introduction to the comming messiah, along with all the stuff mentioned in previous posts. What i find so valuable about the OT, is how much more insight one can gain after reading the NT.
They are so interconnected, and they support each other really well.
Ive done some great study, where something in the NT illistrates the same principles/morals, as something in the OT; eg: Ephesians 1:17 and Isaiah 11:2 these scriptures that are interconnected give a glipse into the ways in which God works and His promises etc
Really, to understand the OT one must read and grasp the message of the NT, i dont feel they should be seen as having a great division or seperation.
The OT was written exclusively for the jewish ppl; and establishes God's character, desire and expectations for ppl, along with the consequences (some disturbing)
Where as the NT is all about Jesus...who He is to God...and what effect that has on non-jews aka gentiles, it is the revelation of God the father and detailed instruction and encouragement on the christian walk.
Often after reading the OT i get a whole new appreciation for Jesus and just exactly what He has done.
The bible is soooo deep....and can be understood by all ages...its living, and u can read the same scripture 100 times and it still reveals new things.
