5th April 2007
Passover is what Christians should be celebrating, not Easter. Christians may think that they are the same, but they are not. One is a pagan festival and the other is the most sacred day of celebration for Christians. It makes a huge difference to God which one you celebrate.
The word Easter is used only one time in the Bible: “And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.” Acts 12:4
The original Greek word used in the Bible is pascha, not easter. In fact, it’s used twenty eight times in the New Testament. Twenty seven of those times pascha is translated Passover. There is absolutely no way you can translate pascha as easter unless it is done deliberately in an attempt to distort the Word of God. Translating pascha to easter is the work of Satan.
Easter is a heathen term, derived from the goddess Eastre, the same as Astarte, the Syrian Venus, called Ashtoreth in the Old Testament. Ashtoreth was known as the goddess of love and increase and the Queen of heaven. The easter rabbit and colored eggs, are a symbol of fertility and orgies that have nothing to do with Passover. These are heathen traditions of men and are an abomination to God. “For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.
For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.” I Kings 11:4-6 Ashtoreth=the Phoenician goddess of love and increase. “Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.
Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.
Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.
And the LORD stirred up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.” I Kings 11:11-14
As you can see, God doesn’t like it when you break his first commandment. “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;” Exodus 20:5 “The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.” Jeremiah 7:18-20
Passover first took place when the children of Israel were still in bondage in the land of Egypt in Exodus 12. God's instructions were to take a male lamb without blemish and kill it. The children of Israel were to take the blood from this lamb and put it on the two side posts and the upper door post of the house where they were going to eat the lamb. The Egyptians would not let the children of Israel go, so that night God would smite the Egyptians with the tenth and last plague. The tenth plague was that God would kill all the first born of man and beast in the land of Egypt. The reason for the blood on the door posts was that God would "passover" that house and not kill the first born.
Passover for Christians today is different than it was in Old Testament times. In Exodus, God told the children of Israel to use a male lamb without blemish. “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, Which taketh away the sin of the world.” John 1:29
Jesus Christ was the only person to ever walk this earth in a flesh body and not sin, therefore, remaining without blemish. Everyone else will sin at some point in their life. It was God's plan for Jesus Christ to shed his blood on the cross as he is the only perfect sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:” I Corinthians 5:7
Christ has become our Passover. In the Old Testament, the shedding of animal blood was needed for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus Christ fulfilled that part of the law by shedding his blood on the cross. It’s an insult to the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross when Christians celebrate the heathen holiday Easter instead of Passover. Passover should be a time to remember what God did for the children of Israel when they were still in bondage in the land of Egypt. It should also be a time to remember the price that Jesus paid on the cross. He suffered and gave his life in the flesh so we can have forgiveness of our sins through faith and repentance.
And it’s the same story with Christmas and Santa Clause… | | | | | Registered Member

Thank you for this thread, but i`ll just clear out one thing concerning the title of the celebrated holiday. It is definitely called Pascha in Greek, however it is in no way the same intended as Passover. Since i am familiar with Hebrew Lang. i can assure you that Passover is the Pesach celebrated by the Jewish ppl where they mark their liberation from the Pharoah of Egypt, their exit(passover) out of Egypt to Holy land. In Hebrew the Pesach is the Jewish Holiday, Pascha is the Christian Holiday. They also use the terminology Khag Aviv to refer to Easter which may be a Pagan holiday, but Israelites do celebrate Easter in a way or another. Don`t get me wrong, i mean they don`t celebrate Easter the way we do, but on TVs, streets, ppl they say khag aviv samiakh= happy spring holiday. Pesach, Pascha, and khag Aviv are always in one month, April.
Hope i was a bit of help
cheers and happy Easter, Pesach, Pascha, Holidays,.... :) | | | | | Registered Member

Hope i was a bit of help | Yes, it was a great help (at least for me), thank you Hooks!
I just wanted to add that I agree with Caesar (at least we agree in something! ) when he says Quote: |
Christ has become our Passover. In the Old Testament, the shedding of animal blood was needed for the forgiveness of sins
| After Christ, the sacrifices were no longer important to God. Jesus was the Definitive and Radical Sacrifice. The jews used to offer the animals in order to obtain the Forgiveness and Blessing of God. Jesus took the place of this animals offering Himself to God in our name. And God blessed all of us (when the Holy Spirit came down over the Church), because it was in the name of all us that Christ offered Himself to the Father.
The death of Jesus is much related with the sacrifices of the Old Testament. But after the coming of Jesus, we don't have to remember the Passover anymore. So, I don't agree when Caesar says Quote: |
Passover should be a time to remember what God did for the children of Israel when they were still in bondage in the land of Egypt.
| Well maybe it should be like this for christians-jews, if they want to celebrate something important of their history, but it has no importance to christians. I mean, it's important to know, but not important to celebrate. Quote: |
And it’s the same story with Christmas and Santa Clause…
| I agree. I don't like these new "heroes" like Santa Claus, the Easter-Bunnies, etcetera... Modern Societies tend to take Jesus off christian festivities. Christmas and Easter exist because Jesus exist. It's sad that few remember it. It's also a bit irritating to see those cards saying "Happy Xmas!" It's not Xmas, but Christmas! | | | | | Registered Member

Thanks for the informative post Caesar.
I personally hate how Christian holidays have become nothing but marketing ploys for major corporations in the US. As Claudia said, they have take the Jesus out of everything that came into place because of Jesus.

cheers and happy Easter, Pesach, Pascha, Holidays,.... :) | I'm not saying they are the same holiday, just that Jesus became our passover lamb as documented. But they are both legitimate holidays, unlike easter.
Happy Passover Quote:

And it's no accident that we celebrate it around the same time. Quote:

Julias if you have a problem with the name of "Easter" then why dont you take it up with the Pope then.
It doesn't matter what you call it, all that matters is that you remember that Jesus died on the cross for all of humanity and on the third day He rose from the dead and ressurrected to the Kingdom.
Passover and Easter are too different events and you should not try and mix them up. Also i feel Christians moved away from the whole passover thing because they proved over the past centuries that they do not want to be associated in anyway to the jews.

| It matters very much if you celebrate a pagan festival when you're suppose to be celebrating the holiest of days for Christians. You think kids growing up today care about Jesus' sacrifice or just enjoy painting eggs? This is Satan's way of polluting the truth and our kids. Most people look forward to easter eggs & bunnies and couldn't careless about Passover, the same way they look forward to Santa Clause and couldn't care less about Jesus' birth. It certainly matters to God... | | | |

Look at the children today, do they have a clue about Jesus and his teachings? Do you? Satan blocks knowledge of the Word through the traditions of men. Thats how he deceives people.
