Know about any risks?
Well actually anything that might be relevant is welcome…..

| I myself has not done it yet.... but i know a lot of people around me that has undergone this surgery, and one of my cousins just had one last week and it looks that things are preety straightforward and not risky at all...
I also know someone who has done it a while ago, probably 5 years ago in Lebanon and lately she was seeing some bluriness in her vision. But she might reperform another surgery in a year or 2 in order to bring her vision back to 20/20.
One thing i know is that there is LASIK and LASEK. The latter involves cutting a layer in front of the cornea and i think this one is more accurate and more expensive... but it also depends how bad are your eyes... | | | | | Registered Member

I know someone who also had to undergo the surgery twice.... | | | | | Registered Member

I know someone who also had to undergo the surgery twice.... | In some cases like hers, her eyes were really bad. (like we are talking 6.5) plus she was only 19 when she did it... and I guess the doctor said it's normal after some years and when she is still growing up, and he recommended her another one in a year time in case it becomes worse. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

1) Do not let an old doctor perform it.
2) Make sure to visit a Cornea specialist before you do it (I can provide you info in private if you wish).
3) There is a hereditary factor that, due to lasik, launches self-destruction to the eye's cornea.
My sister wasn't aware of those three factors until she almost lost sight. She had to perform an eye surgery in order to replace her cornea and she's already 2 years uncapable of going back to work and needs another 2 to fully recover (if she's lucky).
What's funny is that the doctor who had performed her Lasik operation kept her coming and going and coming and going for one whole year before he confessed what was really happening. Some (actually few) doctors have become nothing but just Medicine.Inc marketing agents!

Comrade Bassam | Wow, that looks pretty serious...
I guess it's always better to take such precautions, if you hear about them, or if the Docs bother telling you about them. Sometimes, inevitable problems happen , other times it's very easy to avoid them !!!
I have heard of advertisements that talk about 500$ per eye while others talk about 2000$ per eye? I am sure there is a difference between services and experience...

I have performed Lasik surgery, and its pretty easy. 20 minutes and ur done, and its much more relaxing than wearing eye glasses and contact lenses.
Its been a year now and I work on the PC more than 12 hours a day and am still fine, the only thing that I complain of is some dryness of the eyes due and only happens when sitting on PC for a long time, but natrual tears directly solve this issue.
I have not had problems thank god, but you need a good doctor, and you need to have a session with some people who did it to make you feel easy about urself doing it, I know many people who did it, some are very fine, others they had to do corrections after the doctor messed up, etc... So it really depends.
The only thing that used to bother me at first but I got used to it and it its not much much less is the Halo Effect, I am sure you read about it on the internet. | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

and how much does it cost in general, and do u operate your both eyes in the same time or you have 2 differents operations for each eye!

OK Inanna, some LASIK doctors tell you, you can resume work from the next day and I know some friends who resumed work next day !
As for me, since I am a very precautious person, I stayed away from light for three days, that is I stayed home and I wore sunglasses inside the house and I avoid looking at source of lights (TV, light bulb, sun), its better.
Then for 15 days I wore the sunglasses outside the house whenever there was a strong light (in the day).
You do not use bandages at all. You are given eye drops by the doctor (anti inflammatory to use in the first month) and then natural tears to use whenever you feel you have a dry eye.
You also need to be careful not to rub your eyes for around 15 days, because as you know LASIK surgery they cut part of the eye to fix the cornea then put it back and it needs time to heal, if you rub your eyes you might misplace it !
You are able to see VERY well after a coupole of days, I would say Perfect in three days ! However if you feel that you cannot see well you should go directly to your eye doctor as you might need correction.
It costed me around 1500 $ which is peanuts if you consider the relaxation it gives, no more buyiung contact lenses and solutions, no more eye glasses, you can go swimming, play sports, without worry !
You will operate both eyes at the same time, because LASIK is different than LASER, and in twenty minutes you are done and you can see better straight after the operation.
Some notes I must give to those who wish to do it:
Choose your doctor carefully, choose someone you are comfortable with and someone always available for you when you are paranoid about some issues.
DONT PANIC, if you PANIC you would never do it, think of the positive things you get once you do it.
Once you do it, you start to cover one eye and look with the other and visa versa, to see how is your sight, you will notice you see differently between both eyes, THIS IS NORMAL, the eyes of a human being are not identical this has nothing to do with LASIK.
Edit: I forgot to add that after the operation in most cases you will have Bloodspots in your eyes next to your pupil, dont worry, they will go in a period of max two-three months, I know they are annoying but its natural and causes no pain, just only your eyes will look like a vampire :P | | | | | Registered Member

| Sign me up!
I will actually undergo the operation in 3 or 4 months, I've already done my research, and it really is not a big deal.
Your best source of information will be your usual trusted optometrist, they will make you feel comfortable about it, and give you all the exact info you're looking for. | | | | | | |
