Icon5 Insecurity & Self consciousness as a teen - 4th May 2008

Hi guys!

I know this topic might be a bit weird but since I figured that most members here are over 18 years of age,i'd ask about this :)

Is it normal to feel self-conscious and insecure about your appearance (look or style or beauty or etc!) during your teenage years?

Do you grow out of it eventually!?

I'm not a vain person and im generally a very positive person, but ever since last year (when I was 15) and my fellow female classmates began talking about beauty and good looks; I began feeling so self-conscious and insecure about looks and what people think, and it's lasting until now

I really dislike this because im not superficial at all yet i feel so superficial regarding myself but I dont mean it and i cant help it ! :|

Did anyone from the dear members experience this? (male and female members)

Thanks alot in advance ! :-)

Hi drinkaholic
U don't have to justify urself regarding what u feel towards any of ur problems
You have the rigth to worry about anything

Well, being worry about ur beauty is not something negative, it's normal, especially at ur age (if u're really 16 ) where the most important thing in the life is how to attract boys

So, don't be so embarrassed if u're worried about ur good looking cz every woman wants to be the most beautiful woman in the whole world , and i can tell you this : every woman is beautiful, she only has to know how to show it

Good luck

I'm fat. I'm too skinny. I'd be happy if I were taller, shorter, had curly hair, straight hair, a smaller nose, bigger muscles, longer legs.......

We have all been there at some point. You will outgrow it for sure as it is a very normal part of growing up. You are developping your Body image and how you view yourself is very important. So dont be harsh on yourself.
Learn how to love yourself as in a package the inner and outer beauty and consider all your strenghts.

I read somewhere in a scientific study, that everybody will feel insecure about themselves until the age of 30. This is the age when you learn to accept yourself as you really are, with your "positives" and "neagtives".

So don't be fooled by appearances, but every teen feels insecure about themselves, and they try to hide it and deal with it in many ways.

Some deny it and some admit it, but they all feel it.

Feeling insecure and self-conscious about your look is a very normal feeling that every person feels not only teenagers. .... This feeling will change when you begin loving what you have ... your positives things as much as you negatives .... a lot of people never reach that level ... this will be something to worry about. .... If you will never feel good with yourself and you will never accept your beauty... you will never succeed in anything..... it will affect your whole life .... this is bad.

So please stop listening to what people say and how they like to see you ..... and start listening to what you want and how do you like to be .... you can never satisfy all people ... at least you will find one person who won't like you .... so better tdire dayntik l tarcha ..... and try to love what you have and change what you dont love to something you will be satisfied of. .... you can never change you negatives things if you dont love them and accept them first .....

And believe me .... what is beautiful in your eyes ... can be ugly in other's eyes ... beauty has no definition, no rules .... Follow your eyes and your heart and you will be satisfied forever.

Just take steroids if you are a male, or get some surgery done if you're a female.

Actually this is the worst thing a teen can do ya Abufijli.

I agree that operations can be helpful at a certain old age for you to look younger or not so burned out, but to start with operations in your teen age this is really so sad.

Where did you read this? Could it work the other way with some people?

Not necessarily.

I grew out of stupid vanity with the years. You get to a stage where you look so deep beneath the surface at times that you don't notice what's on top. I've never felt insecure, the opposite , crazy indeed. I think it's a pshycological stage you have to go through growing up; either extreme this or extreme that. The most important thing is to be satisfied with whatever you've got and not to be influenced "negatively" by those you see on TV. We're all lucky, unique and special.

When we are young, we care a lot for looks. You could be attracted to someone just because of his/her looks. Later in life you find that you can't tell if the person is attractive or not till he/she speaks. A no personality, for example, demolishes the best looking person on earth. Sometimes you could look like the devil himself, yet you're attractive... Why? Something about you... This you begin to learn with the years and you start to notice how your perceptions start to change gradually. You change a lot drinkaholic. Just make sure you watch your health and don't worry about anything else.

I read a scientific study about it, long time ago, so excuse me but I really forgot where it was. I still remember it well because it was right for me, before I was 30, I always wished to have longer/shorter/better/whiter/darker.... After 30 I stopped thinking about it and accepted how I look and how I am as I am.

What not necessarily!!!! You cannot talk so in an abstract way. Some teens hide it well and some not, but all teens feels insecure about themselves. The day when they stop this insecurity is the day when they are not teens anymore.
