Default I am a Better Person, Are you? Thanks LFPM [Poll added] - 25th March 2007

[]
A member here reminded me yesterday that I am about to reach my 1000 post here, in a way this made me reflect on the impact of this forum on me.
To say the least, I learned that no matter how great our differences are there is always room to dialogue. I've answered many heated posts, and am guilty of creating some flammable ones, but the dialogue never stopped. As a matter of fact, members always look for their worst opponents to try to reach out to them and explain their points of view.
This forum taught me patience, understanding, and respect for diversity.
Some members here should be considered national treasures for their intelligence, and political savvy.
We watch the news every day and wonder why our politicians can't sign up to this forum, maybe they'll learn to appreciate their opponents a little more, and maybe just maybe they'll be able to debate the issues with a little more respect and consideration to us the people, and to their opponents in politics.
Thanks DI

4U2IMI8,

Beautiful topic, I think of the below saying:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Voltaire

And my answer to your question, yes I do believe that I have bettered myself through media such as this forum and other means of communication.

Congrats on your 1000th post, I have enjoyed reading many of them.

Thanks and regards,
DI

Thanks really, you shouldn't have

But your post presents the summary of what everyone here feels, at least after a somewhat long stay in the forum, you stop bashing as much as you used to and you start using more "sane" replies to other forum members so patience is maybe, as you said, the main thing you gained here.

Forums in general are extremly useful until they become addictivity. Debate forums have improved my debating skills, as in understanding and experessing. I am still new in this forum (though I am a long time ago reader) and I hope I will have some good experience. I think forums become the most valuable when you join several forums of diverse opinions.

Regards,

Parents taught their children values such as respect, humanity... They highlight what is right, what is wrong. Sometimes, they taught their children things that are abstract.

Some of these values are becoming concrete, at least for me, with this forum. I always heard that I should listen to others, respect their opinions and then argue to try to convince them or to understand them but, the problem is that in Lebanon, even on TV, nobody listen to anybody and nobody respect the opinion of others. This forum gives me the chance to put into practice the theorical "how to do" that my parents taught me.

Day after day, I am gaining patience, respect, the ability to argue and discuss and so on.

What I have to say is Thanks LFPM

in daily life we practice what we were brought up to do : respect, tolerence , malice , honesty or lying ... good or bad stuff ... most of the time we can look at others faces and react .
in here on this virtual world a new horizon is open and we have to rely most of the time on our mind ,our intuition, our inner feelings this is a great oportunity as we cant be affected by others outlook or physical attitude but here we have to rely only on our minds only our minds .
this helped me to see deeper in others ppl personalities feel them better and understand them better . it helped also to see myself better (good and bad sides ) .
FPM forum gave me that great opportunity !

Mabrouk for the 1000th post and POST-1000!!

Anyway, this forum added too much for us! And I don't dare join another one!! In fact, surfing some other forums (won't name them) and reading the curses and insults and the BAD WAY to bash and to HATE without really discussing... the words that I see and that make me "sssoooooooooooooo surprised" (to not say more) by this LEVEL....etc. all of that makes me respect the forum rules more and more and appreciate the mods work more and more!!

About what this forum brought to me, I had written once a long post and I could'nt write better now!! HERE it is!!

Thank you lfpm.org!

LFPM is the first forum i joined and to be honest i don't like to join another one. Because here i feel home.

Usually our true friends are from the same environement, same shcools, same university, same religion even same affiliation. And the way we think is probably the same. This doesn't help us too much to grow up or to meet other different people and to be able to accept other opinions and other way of thinking.
This forum includes members from different religions, different affiliations, different countries, differents cultures.... and this is really great because diversity opened my eyes that some people who think differently or live differently or believe differently may not be wrong and it's not my job to judge them. I really learned to accept them as they are and to believe that they have the right to express themself as much as i have. And some times they convinced me bala ma ya3irfou .

This forum is really a very fast way to be opened and to discover ourselves, the others therefore the whole world. I could discuss issues here i never felt i can discuss it with any person and this make feel better and willing for more.

But the most important thing that makes me addicted to this forum is Civilization in discussing issues whats makes me veery confortable.
Also the majority of the members are very friendly and they welcome any person and make him/her feel home.
So Thank you X, thank you all moderators because you are doing a very good work and thanks to the members because without you all there won't be a Forum.

PS: This forum let me meet a great great friends and i always thanks God for them

We all have a home(s) somewhere, but indeed to profit the most from forums you should at least visit some other forums with some other opinions.

Anyway, that's only my opinion/advise.
