Default How to relieve your tooth pain? - 6th April 2008

I had a molar tooth removed yesterday (not a wisdom tooth) because it has been broken earlier and infection apparently hit down to the bottom creating abscesses making me live a hell of a pain. The doctor told me it's not worth saving so she decided to take it out, and so she did!

Right now it's my whole left side of the jaw up until the ear that hurts so badly that breathing/swallowing hurts, I've been on extensive medication (6 advils per day + algoflex + antibiotics) and the pain just doesn't seem to show any intention to fade. I have been trying also warm water with salt, but nothing helps.

Is there any professional here who can give advice? Is this pretty normal? I would like to know what can be done, or if I could just go and shoot that dentist.

(can't sleep, barely can eat/drink/talk)

help :(

I'm not a doctor nor a dentist, but my answer comes from personal experience.
You seem to have a severe infection, regular antibiotics can't fight it fast enough. You need to check with your MD very fast to see if you need an antibiotic shot, needle, this usually will relieve your pain much faster.
If it is an infection you need to treat it right away, don't wait. If need be seek emergency treatment.
Good luck, and sorry for your pain I know how bad it could get.

Salemtak. Try stronger pain killers... Nurofen Plus is good, better than Advil... Morphine's great :D. Otherwise you'll just have to tolerate the pain till it subsides...

It's too early for infection to take place, the tooth has been just extracted yesterday. Plus i've been taking care of it (antibiotics, toothpaste, salty water). It's just that **** big wound down until the bone that hurts.

You shouldn't be using toothpaste and salty water if there's a wound; it makes it worse .

Prescription required. Go to a medical centre.

I'm not sure how fast infections can develop, but to be on the safe side maybe you should check with an MD, just my opinion. Also depending on where you live, I'm not sure what medications are available to you, there are prescription pain killers that are local to the wound your dentist or MD may be able to recommend some for you if available.

I would say give it another 24 hours, if pain didn't subside, call your dentist again.
