There's a lot of advice flying around about what makes for a healthy heart. And, while ideas may come and go, the evidence consistently points to 7 important factors that helps to keep the heart healthy. Difficulty: Average Time Required: All your life Here's How: - Reduce fat. A certain amount of fat is good for a well balanced diet but reduce the amount of fat and the type of fat you eat. Saturated fat affects blood cholesterol levels, so try to eat less full-fat dairy products, cakes, cookies, pastries and burgers and replace with monosaturated fats such as olive and rapeseed oil, nuts and avocado pears. Polyunsaturated fats in small amount helps reduce cholesterol so oily fish (salmon, sardines) and oils like sunflower, corn and soya oil are good.
- Eat less salt. Eating too much salt has been linked to high blood pressure. A recommended level is 6g a day. Put less in cooking and try not to add any salt at the table.
- Exercise. Regular exercise improves heart function and lowers your blood pressure and blood cholesterol. 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day is recommended.
- Keep weight down. Too many calories, fatty foods and being overweight is really bad for you. It puts extra stresses and strain on your heart, makes you feel lethargic and de-energised and affects your self-image and confidence. Try eating more fruit and vegetables, less sugary foods, eat more unrefined carbohydrates such as seed breads, wholegrain cereals and pasta. So-called soluble fiber may also help reduce cholesterol so eat oats, beans and pulses such as kidney beans, peas and baked beans.
- Stop smoking. Although its down as step five, quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do. It dramatically cuts your chances of getting heart and respiratory diseases, cancer and emphysema. If you have already had a heart attack quitting will reduce the risk of a second one.
- Relax. Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do. It dramatically cuts your chances of getting heart and respiratory diseases, cancer and emphysema. If you have already had a heart attack quitting will reduce the risk of a second one.
- Think lifestyle change rather than dieting. By living and eating in a healthier way you will feel better, more energised, more confident and happier.
- Monitor your health status. Keep a check on your body mass index. Get a blood pressure machine and keep an eye your blood pressure. Get yourself screened at the appropriate times.

i looked at the 8 points, i looked at our lifestyle.... i looked to the 8 points again.... I started to think about funerals !
What i mean is... look at the average weight of an average lebanese.. our food, our "arguileh" and cigares....
So little steps for a healthy heart... yet we never consider abiding by them!
i frankly never met any person who considered "redemption" before he already survived a stroke or other crisis

Those are some excellent advices, many of us know it but we don't apply it in everyday life!
From my side, I apply most of them, but I must organize better my food, especially at night, I don't know why in that time I eat more than enough!
I put a bit of sugar & salt in my food or drinks like tea. I'm not fat. I don't smoke. I'm optimistic.
About the "relax advice" I have a precious advice: don't visit the political forum, unless when you want to post in a calm thread with a deep & respectful dialogue. Read less politics & more novels or poetry | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

Read less politics & more novels or poetry | You are absolutly right on this one ya Picasso. IO -Intentional Ostrishing- is, next to natural mental diability, the most effective way to preserve ones health in such a crazy world. | Your right mephi I think every person shouldnt neglect his/her health ..A 72yr old relative of mine who doesnt smoke at all and hardly drinks coffee ..no high blood pressure at all.... This year she had chronic bronchitis and went to the docs for a check up .The doc asked for a heart screen and it came out that the main heart valve is 90% blocked .. she needed an open heart surgery.. She never had any symptoms at all that would make her think that she had a blocked valve ... and if she hadnt gone in for her checkup she may have died anytime any second any minute .. she has sucessfully had her open heart opperation and thanks God she knew b4 it was too late ... | | | | | Orange Room Supporter

This somehow looks like:
To win the loto, get the 6 numbers correct!
In other terms, the requirements are often very difficult to abide by all your life, some of which you can't be fully in control of (especially stress). | | | | | Registered Member

It's more along the lines of getting a reconcilation for your paper, proly just return its price. mm | | | | | Registered Member
