Tea containshundreds of chemical compounds which give it its distinctive aroma, taste, and astringency. One class of compounds predominates, making up about one third of the weight of tea leaf: these are the polyphenols known as flavanols, more commonly known as catechins. Catechins are the heavyweights responsible for the anti cancer activity of green tea. Green tea contains several catechins; the star among them with the highest anti-cancer activity of all being the EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate. As a general rule, Japanese green teas contain far more EGCG.
NOW COMES THE IMPORTANT PART!! The brewing period (the time u leave the tea in the hot water b4 u drink it ya3neh) is an important factor in the final polyphenol content. An infusion time of less than 5 minutes only allows an extraction of 20% of the catechins that could be extracted from an infusion of 8-10 minutes!
So if you want to extract all the good stuff you will most likely end up with a mildly warm tea to drink anyway.
Studies carried out on green tea suggest beneficial activity in the prevention of cancers, including bladder, prostate, breast and stomach cancers.
EGCG has been found to inhibit the growth of cancerous cell lines in vitro, among them lines from erythrocytic leukemia in mice, human leukemia, renal cancers, skin cancers, mouth cancers...
ATTENTION!!!! Grean tea only! Black tea is prepared differently and loses most of its catechins. One of the rare black teas to still contain significant amounts of catechins is the Darjeeling.
It is recommended u drink 3 times everyday. It has to be a regular thing in order for you to get the benefits, and fight the cancer cells constantly because these cells are present at all times in our bodies even when we are not diagnosed with cancer . I mostly drink twice, One in the morning and one in the evening:) |
1)-I agree that high temperature in any liquid ingested (tea, coffee,...) increases the risk of oesophageal cancer.
2)-Because of its minimal processing and its composition (buds and young leaves), white tea contains more antioxydant nutrients than its black or green cousins, making it the mightiest of the teas.
3)-You should never prepare tea with boiling water, but with water temperature of 80 C. So wait 2-3 minutes after boiling your water.
4)-beware: according to some studies, drinking too much tea could lead to iron deficiency.
5)-white tea is more expensive and harder to find than green tea !!!
