Default Heartburn? - 24th October 2006

I'm having bad heartburn after eating some Kibbeh. What would help in alleviating the pain. I've tried Tums but it only seems to work for a few minutes and then the heartburn comes back. Any help would be appreciated!

walaw kibbeh without arak?
I suggest you should visit a physician to know what the real cause of this heartburn, could be ulcere, or sensitivity to some kind of food.

Yeah, it can't be the kibbeh because I didn't have any today and I still have the heartburn. Maybe a trip to the doctor is needed...

Do cookies cause heartburn? I've had many of those recently, they're just so addictive.

first let's define ur heart burn?

is it an upper abdominal pain?
do u feel sour taste in your mouth?
are u regurgitating food? (food coming back to ur mouth on it own)
how old r u?
do u feel a burning sensation in your chest?
is it occuring after lifting something, after exercise?
is it the first time u feel something like that?
do u smoke?
have u seen blood in your stools?
have u vomited?

thanks

It's an upper abdominal pain and there is some sour taste in my mouth. I get it when I eat anything really. I got it really bad after I had some Starbucks. This isn't the first time I've experienced this, but this is the first time that it's gone on for 4 days in a row. I'm 18 years old.

Regards

from what u're describing, u seem to have reflux...

since u've had it for only few days, it cannot be described as Gastroesophageal Reflux disease or GERD....

for the time being, avoid caffeine (starbucks), avoid eating just before going to bed and use tums, as much as u want...

u may also want to avoid chocolat, mint product and smoking, heavy weight lifting.... if ur symptoms are too disturbing, u can try some pepcid or zantac....

if ur symptoms persist and recur, consider then trying proton pump inhibitors like nexium, losec, pariet, etc....

Drink some milk, but stay away from caffiene, and anything fried & oily, or acidic like oranges, tomato sauce etc. for the time being, until you start feeling better. It's preferable that you don't use any chemicals, as in medicine, they don't treat the root of the problem and cause side effects, plus you don't want to become reliant on chemicals. If you can take the taste, buy some raw ginger at your local market, shred it and eat about 3 spoonfulls. If you like Japanese food, try eating Gari, but without soy sauce, it always works for me, and it's not harmful or an agressive treatment like chemicals.
