Default Food for Mood - 17th October 2006

You’ve heard of ‘food for thought,’ but what about ‘food for mood?’ Experts say the right snack can do everything from banish the blues to fight fatigue. But I’m telling you right now, that Snickers Bar didn’t make the list. Here’s what to eat the next time you need a boost. (Courtesy of Ladies Home Journal)

If you want to banish the blues. Have an orange! It’s an excellent source of folate, and studies show your body needs folate to produce feel-good chemicals – like dopamine - which boost your mood.

If you want to squash stress. Snack on spinach! Dark, leafy greens are chock full of magnesium. How does magnesium fight stress? Experts say it keeps your blood vessels contracting and relaxing smoothly. This lowers your blood pressure, and makes you feel less stressed.

If you want to fight fatigue. Have some beans! When you don’t get enough iron, your body has trouble pumping oxygen to your muscles. This can make you feel tired and sluggish. But beans are a great source of iron, so eating them will help you feel more alert. And here’s a bonus: studies also show that iron helps improve your mental focus because it pumps oxygen to your brain.

If you want to chill out after a tough day. Have some whole grain toast or pasta. Research suggests complex carbs help your body release the feel-good chemical serotonin, which makes you feel calm. Also, whole grain carbs take longer for your body to digest, which helps keep your blood sugar stable so you can relax.

So let’s recap: To banish the blues, eat an orange. Squash stress with spinach. Fight fatigue by eating beans. And chill out with some whole grain toast or pasta. Now go forth and eat your way to happiness!

don't worry, use it instead of suffering from it. When you eat chocolate, you get enough energy to make more and more exercise, all kinds of exercise.

In most parts of the world chocolate is associated with romance, and for a good reason it was viewed as an aphrodisiac.Chocolate causes a rapid mood change, increasing the heart rate and inducing those feelings of well being, bordering on euphoria usually associated with being in love.
What do u think Doc?
