Default Executions in Iran - 14th June 2007

Iran moves to execute porn stars
POSTED: 2154 GMT (0554 HKT), June 13, 2007

Story Highlights
• People involved in adult films are "corrupter of the world," Iran's parliament says
• Producers, directors, cameramen and actors could face the death penalty
• Distributors and producers of pornographic Web sites could also face death
• The vote follows the leaking of a sex tape allegedly involving an Iranian actress

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.
With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."
The term, "corrupter of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslims' holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.
The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.
The bill also envisages convictions ranging from one year imprisonment to a death sentence for the main distributors of the movies and also producers of Web sites in which the pornographic works appear.
Besides videos, the bill covers all electronic visual material, such as DVDs and CDs. Other material, such as porn magazines and books, are already banned under Iranian law.
To become law, the bill requires an approval by the Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog in Iran.
It is widely believed that the drafting of the bill came about as a reaction to a scandal last year, when a private videotape, apparently belonging to Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi and allegedly showing her having intercourse with a man, became available across Iran.
The videotape was leaked to the Internet and released on a black market DVD, becoming a full-blown Iranian sex tape scandal. Ebrahimi later came under an official investigation, which is still ongoing. She faces fines, whip lashing or worse for her violation of Iran's morality laws.
The unnamed man on the tape, who is suspected of releasing it, reportedly fled to Armenia but was subsequently returned to Iran and charged with breach of public morality laws. He remains in jail.
In an exclusive interview with the British newspaper The Guardian early this year, Ebrahimi denied she was the woman in the film and dismissed it as a fake, made by a vengeful former fiance bent on destroying her career.
In recent years, private videotapes have increasingly been leaked to the public in Iran, riling the government and many in this conservative Islamic country, where open talk of sex is banned and considered taboo.
However, pornographic material is easily accessible through foreign satellite television channels in Iran. Bootleg videotapes and CDs are also available on the black market on many street corners.

You can't just kill people for immorality, killing is never the answer, it's the easy way out. Instead of tackling real social problems through understanding, they attempt to suppress society's callings through power, abuse and murder.

Abusive power is only guaranteed one thing ... an end. I would hope Iran would have learnt that from their arch enemy, Saddam Hussein.

Iran is only taking initiative in promoting extremism in the world.

It disgusts me how Iran uses the death penalty as if it's a remote-controlled toy. It's so hypocritical of them to be lecturing people on morality when they have no value for human life. They dispense of it like a rag.

As if pornography is a greater sin than murder, which is exactly what this regime is committing.

The irony of this world.

If Iran had any real morals, it'd be their leaders hanging from goal posts, and not their citizens.

Maybe bc there are ever more frustrated guys
That's the goal stella. A frustrated man becomes at the same time stupid, influencible and dangerous. Very useful for the ayatollahs.

I think there are more important things going on in Iran to worry about, other than executing porn stars. Let's worry about their uranium enrichment program, persecution of women, execution of "dissidents" who question their gov't... If the porn stars desire safety, they can stop being filthy and take a day job or something. On the other hand, women being abused for simply being of the female sex, can't stop being women.

Why do I have the feeling that some of you here are mixing between porn movies(actors, director etc..), and human natural needs?

Exactly, they will be easily manipulated, and their frustration leads them to twisted life, they all maintain a twisted society! It is of course the worst in Saudi Arabia!

If we would like to observe in frame of a scientific research, these anomalies present in the oriental societies, especially in KSA, we couldnt do anything, we can not even enter the country in first hand. For me, a european woman, its impossible. This is just one sickness, and we can not know its deepness, and where it will lead in the future, sadly.

It's kind of like the blue wall of silence; hypocrisy at it's best.
You see, I dont know to some how it is not obvious these regime's hypocrisy! With their religious and dress code police they just encourage ever more these samisdat activities, with the oppression of individualism and normal men-women relationships, they just create generations of frustrated youngsters!
And just as you said, saudis for example celebrate going out form the country and breathing some free air, enjoying that they can see women lol, or even date them. And when returning back, they are forced into a society again which oppresses basic human rights, in a very hypocrate way.

In Iran, as far as I know, there are more critical voices, they raise their voices even if they will have to face jail for that. We shall respect them a lot!

I really dont see any other way to change these twisted societies, than the peoples themselves revolting against their masters, bringing them down in a revolution. This goes for Lebanon as well, and the whole ME, there is no other way, the people themselves have to be strong and liberate themselves.

Otherwise, as I said in the celibacy thread, the right to a harmonious sexual life shall be a basic human right, as it is an essence of a healthy human, who is thus healthy in spirit and body as well. Maybe this could eliminate the destructive frustration, or at least start building down some meaningless taboos.
