Post Eating before and after the gym - 3rd May 2006

Guys;

Before going to the gym...what is most recommended to eat? What kind of food? Can you give out some examples?

I heard 'batata maslou2a' and rice are good choices.

What about after the gym? A rest or a meal??

They say its never good to late at night? Then when should we have dinner?

Well i have somthing high in carbs, and a cup of coffe,
Straight after the gym have a protien shake. and steak & vegies, or chicken and vegies, or fish and vegies. just make sure you have meats and fresh boiled vegies, Man eat late at night, , you have the next 8 hours to give it a rest,i really disagree with not eating late, How do you expect to put on size, its good to get thin with no muscle, but if you want some muscle eat at night just remember to eat right

Just depends what you want,

it depends wat u do in the gym if u mean bodybuilding,, one of the biggest mistakes i used to make is eat alot of carbs,, ive been body building for shi 10 years ,, until last year i thought tht eating carbs b4 is the best thing , i used to eat a huge bowl of corn flakes,, bas i read in "flex" magazine tht the best thing to eat is something high in protein , or unsaturated fat(nuts) and very little carbs,, bas if u go to the gym and go running thn eat carbs bas not refined(white bread, white rice....) eat vegetables or fruit,, or whole wheat bread it gives u much more energy and doesnt make u store fat like refined carbs, plus thy have alot of fibre which is very healthy,,,,, after ur work out u dont really need alot of protien 10g is more thn enough(ths also depends ,if ur like shwartnegger size thn eat anything u want bhass ur body will need it after the heavy workout),, u also need carbs ,,,, the best thing to do after a work out is to get the chocolate milkshake( the ones for kids thy cost 500, trust me thy work!!) thy have the perfect mix of protein and carbs....(all ths info is from body building magazines im not making it up or anything) the best is to eat until 2 hours b4 u go to sleep, so if u sleep 12 dont eat anything after 10

Yes also depends on how your body reacts to carbs . Myn just burns with ease, you have to know what your body reacts to, And there is NO RULE saying you should not eat carbs b4 working out, give you alot of go,

10 g is no where next to enough, after a workout you should have 1 protien shake, wich is equal to 30grames, if you want shwartnegger size you gonna be pumping upwards of 4 shakes a day, but with health issues will arise from that much,

The reason whay they say eat protien , is becuse protien -synthesis into the muscle while your makaing micro -tears, repairs qicker,, id prefer this after a workout, not during,,

i also suggest taking biology 101,, then review your statement,

Cheers,

Man, u were either eating too much carbs before u went to the gym, or you weren't eating properly and watching ur diet after u finished ur workout. Your primary source of energy is carbs, and you metabolise them much faster than fats. You need them in ur workout to give u the energy to lift. It's ridiculous to assume that u do not need carbs, any physical activity needs carbs, except if u want to get lean, which is another story. A milkshake has too much fat, protien shakes are much more preferable, and just one thing, a cup of milk contains 8g of protiens, something i consider hardly enough to repair the muscles after a hard workout.

ok im quoting from menshealth magazine ,issue november 2005 p106 "immediately after u finish ur work out:Ideally ths should b a liquid meal, which speeds the absorption of protein and carbs into the blood stream.Reachers at the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS MEDICAL BRANCH(i thnk thyve taken bio101 dont u ya geageaskywalker??) found tht 6 grams (not even 10) of essential amino acids and 35g carbs are ideal combination for promoting muscle growth after excercise THATS ALMOST IDENTICAL TO 12 OUNCES OF CHOCOLATE MILK" and wen i said trust me it works i wasnt making it up kaman ive been doing it for the last year and ive gotten aloot bigger,,2nd thing i never said dont eat any carbs i said very little!!! 3 rd protein doesnt only have one job in ur body its not only needed after the workout but during it as well,,,,,,, plz 4 the future dont insult others ppl intelligence , ino u really thnk i would b writing advice 4 someone if i hadnt made sure it is correct!

Nearly every major body building magzine form hear to jupiter states that it should be a protien shake, andi never said that protien is exclusivly for one thing, but in body building terms its major job is the nurishing of the muscle, help it recover ,help you grow,

Why dont you follow professional body building advice, from proper body building mags and journels, not menshealth magazine, that only good for stuff that concerns girls,LOL

Sorry if i have offended you, but you have to understand i do not think one body builder on the planet will agree with what you said, or what your source says, its only true to a extent,

kool makes sense, IT all depends on what you want, but even beach muscle you need a moderate protien intake, and you will need a 30gram shake after a workout, 10 grames is nothing, after a workout,

coach, are protein shakes healthy?

in other words...you know that they are artificial proteins, aren't they? tayb dont they have side effects? why not focus on natural protein from food? ok, it is not enough, but what about the side effects of protein shakes...are they safe????
