Everybody shall be free to choose when and how they want to die. I understand it might be appealing the die young and live forever idea.

However your freedom as a smoker lasts til you dont bother or endanger others with it, because for that you dont have the right.
I wont even mention the poor environment, I guess its not your concern after you were not concerned about human lives.

1- The environment is not counting on smokers to save it by stopping, that's for sure, your car alone makes up to all the smokers of Lebanon. The environment trick doesn't work here. If someone is worried about the environment, let him go protest to the big corporations massively destroying everything, don't throw it on someone burning a cigarette.

2- Endanger others? Well if second hand smoking is dangerous, stay away from me, don't come and try to abase a smoker for something no one has anything to do with. No one forced you to smoke, so don't force others to stop by trying to insult them.

3- Geagea Skywalker, my lungs are my concern, I love to destroy them, is it anyone's business? Is it anyone's business that you like to eat hamburgers although it's even more dangerous than smoking? (or whichever other reason), no it isn't my business, so it would be better for people to do something about things that matter a bit more, such as AIDS. Do you do STD testing before agreeing with your girlfriend to have sex, even if you use a condom? Would you like me to tell you that if you don't you might end up falling apart in pieces, in a short term? No.

Sure, not smoking is the main factor of pollution, but it has a part in it, and nobody mentioned the environment here.

Personally, I try to avoid smokers, but its not always possible. Sometimes they force me to be a passive smoker, how is that fair?

I knew smokers who stopped, by hard will and determination. And their main motivation was their own health in first place, and then the health of their beloved ones.

There are many other unhealthy habits, like junk foods etc.. or seemingly more lethal diseases like AIDS (its not), but all these wont lessen the importance to raise awareness against smoking.

My point was not the burgers, my point was that there are 1000 things that we do that might make us die. But we don't see ourselves abasing each other for the choices, except for smoking.

The fact of living in Lebanon is dangerous. And anyone who lives in Lebanon is willingly taking the risk. Would you like people to abase you for choosing that? No.

If I am not mistaken, each one of those is 100 times more intelligent than you and I are. Smoking might be a sign of carelessness in the eyes of the public, but definitely not ignorance as you call it.

Not that I am trying to prove the opposite, smoking in itself has NOTHING to do with intelligence, a smoker can be Picasso or the next idiot down the street. It is just irrelevant, and you people should do something better than to abase other people for smoking. We know the risks, and we are taking them on our own responsibility. We are not looking for compassion and sympathy, and especially people nosing down in what is not their business after all.

Smoking has no impact on the environment.

I can tell you what you do and has far more impact on the environment:

1- Cars and all machinery that burns petroleum.
2- Corporations massively employing polyester, and hazard chemicals dumping them into bassins or releasing them into the air.
3- Woodland reduction by 80%
4- Over polluting seas.
5- Diverting rivers.
6- Building randomly, especially just like in Lebanon.
7- Draining all water sources.
8- Over hunting and over fishing, that will turn an ecosystem upside down.

Celebrities are often paid to pose for a pic with cigarette, it was the case especially in the first half of the 20th century, when they deliberately promoted smoking as cool and classy.
