Do you believe you have a "soul"?

Hey!

I was arguing with AbirWard about this issue..

Do you believe in this thing called "soul" ?
Is our "soul" our motor, the energy that makes us alive? Is it the only thing that remains after we die? (21 Grams fans )

On the other hand, can we exist without this idea? aren't we simply "machines" composed of many different parts working together and controlled by the brain? or there is another power (soul)?

It would be interesting to know what you think about this issue.

according to some old christian's branch there is a soul and a spirit in the same body!!! i failed to understand the subtleties between the two definitions.
but hey, is it 21 grams??? i always thought it was 8 grams
anyway, i don't believe in soul existence, the one still alive after your body die...

I told Osiris that the 21 grams are the weight of the spirit. Spirit is energy. The driving force or energy of the body. He insisted that the brain does it all and then when the brain stops, the body dies.

What about those whose brain dies completely??? They go into a coma, they are completely brain dead, yet they are still breathing and alive... they are not functioning... but they have life in them...

Osiris calls this involuntary movement or motion... I call it life... Plants do not have brains... yet plants sense energy... prosper on that too!!! This is scientifically proven... they have life in them...

Some call this life energy... some call it soul... some call it spirit... Note that there is a huge difference between soul and spirit that we do not distinguish in Arabic... we have the same word for both... "Al-roo7."

Energy is the driving force behind us all... be it God or anything u want to name... and pure energy that drives the person is the Spirit.. not soul...

Well, the Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous Systems are divided into two systems according to function:

The somatic nervous system is the voluntary control system of the body and controls things like voluntary muscle movement of the hands, arms, legs, etc...

The autonomic nervous system regulates bodily functions and the activity of specific organs. As examples, the ANS plays a role in the diameter of blood vessels, heart rate, force of contraction of the heart, diameter of the pupils, salivation, perspiration, bronchiole diameter, peristaltic movements in the intestine, sphincter diameter, erection, ejaculation, and parturition.

When a person is in a comma, his autonomic nervous system remains working.. so his heart is beating but he cannot move because his Somatic Nervous System is destroyed.

The way I look at this is that the human being is simply a number of organs working together and controlled by the brain.. that's it! We are just like robots (btw, robots are evolving very quickly.. some of them have a form of intelligence now ). There is nothing called Soul or Spirit..

the nice thing is that you are free to believe whatever you want to.

If you feel yourself comfortable rather with the theory that we dont have any soul, then be it!

We percieve things differently, and actually I can ask you something more weird than yours one

You fail to get me, I said everything what happens around me, what I percieve, what I see, what I feel, touch, do everything may happen only in my mind! So what if the world around me exists only in my mind?

Theology is a social science, in my opinion, which has taken on the quest of proving the existence of God rather than the questioning of religions...

Anyways... this is a totally different subject. However, the difference between the soul and the spirit is simple:

The soul is the essence of a human being, and his/her emotional and moral nature.

The spirit is vital or animating force of human beings. Their motor.

Some definitions link the two while I like to seperate them exactly like seperating personality and character.

mmm... So we go from "21 grams" to "Matrix" ? Maybe we need another Neo to prove that actually the world around us is just a creation of those intelligent robots Osiris mentioned about...

But what about the topic.... I believe that thesoul exists in us, that this is the thing that differs from the animals. If we were just a set of body parts, how could some ppl live and die for ideas or for other ppl, why wouldwe care for something more than filling our stomachs... I can't say what it is exactely, soul, spirit, something divine or just super-natural , but surely I believe that there is something beyond our materialistic world

No. Because it's only your mind that's telling you what "the world around you" is. Your 5 senses are telling you that this is a PC monitor! Can you prove that this is really a PC monitor? Don't think so. Can you prove that your color "red" is my "red"? Maybe your "red" is my "blue" and my brain sees your "red" as my "blue"!
