well as for me any kind of sport is good for children its keeps their body fit then dont forget that kids have lots of energy that sometimes need to burn otherwise they turn into hyper nervous kids..concerning if yoga is more useful than other kind of sports i dunno maybe.if you are referring to.meditating while practicing it helps them relax....
but i think we need it too not only kids

Children today are under a lot of stress, homework pressure and the most is they want to compete with other children. Therefore Yoga help them relax.

Yoga helps children to develop better body awareness, self-control, flexibility and coordination. It help instill calm, confidence and balance. It builds cooperative skills and good social behavior , positive communication and good listening skills which foster self- respect, compassion and respect for others. and the most important it help in building self confidence...

Actually, my friend started Yoga classes for her daughter and the results were amazing,,, I'm planning to send my kids to attend some classes.

Yoga for kids??! Give them a break.

Kids don't want to do yoga, they don't want mind exercises and brain sports.

Kids want to have fun while they're still that age, and I doubt Yoga is an idea of fun for children.

What do you want to give them brain sport for? Don't they have enough at school? With today's school systems where they spend half their youth in school and half the other half at home doing homework at 5 years old, I think that's about enough brain sport for them. Anything about that is moving from brain sport to brain damage.

Kids don't want yoga, they want football, basketball, they want to run, sweat, have fun with their friends, scream, shout.

It is a well known fact that any physical activity is a stress reliever, not only yoga.

So if a certain kid wants to have yoga, fine, let him do it if he enjoys it. But the way you're posting your thread as if Yoga should be imposed on every kid, I say give them a break.

Yes yoga can help kids in studying ...
The breathing and inward focus that is a main component of any yoga practice can help the child learn to focus his mind more effectively. ya3nee concentrate better...ESPECIALLY KIDS WITH ADHD(attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
And kids will enjoy yoga like any kind of sport ... Its not just like one thinks boring and just sitting there meditating ..Its fun as well for children ..
It increases their self esteem ,helps to control stress and gives the child a healthier body...Yoga is a powerful technique for children to begin moving their bodies in ways that feel good and help them look good.
Even if the child is of normal weight, yoga can help them become stronger, gain endurance and flexibility. If your child is involved in another sport, a regular yoga practice is a great cross training activity and it may help her/him reduce the risk of injuries..
Child yoga is an enjoyable activity that can provide major benefits to the child. It will help them grow stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally – and they'll have a lot of fun too!

i think going to school helps the child to study, having good parents following their children progression and intelligence and homeworks with a good raising way, and a good healthy neighborhood, and natural food they eat for every day

Man,
Kids aren't having brain sport in schools... they are having brainstorming and mindwash....

I think yoga (on a minimal level) with usual sport and learning a music instrument can be very helpful to children....

in my opinion both physical and mental activities are important for a child (and grown-ups of course), and enhance his performance at school. We should remember though that a child normally has a short concentration span (the younger he is, the shorter the concentration span), therefore whatever the activity is, (yoga or other) it should be well adapted for his age. So yeah yoga could be an alternative, but along with other sports and activities!
