Exercise is better than dieting. Cardio is good, but weight/resistance burns more and for a longer time. Weights increase your metabolic rate for the next 36 hours, cardio increases it for about 5 hours afterwards.
In terms of diet, just dont eat really rich, fatty junk food and dont eat large meals before going to sleep. Eating 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones, will increase your metabolic rate as well. Drinking milk will metabolise excess fats (to an extent) just dont drink full fat milk. Drinking yansoun before bedtime is good also.
You put on weight for 5 reasons in my opinion:
1-junk food
2-not going out and walking due to war
3-stress due to war
4-not sleeping well due to war. If you dont sleep well, this disrupts your whole system.
5-when the body feels threatened or in times of strife or perceived strife, it stores fat.
Dont get paranoid though, its just a bit of extra fuel, and it will go when you get active again.
