Default Re: Can you get committed to a person having divergent political opinion? - 24th April 2006

Ok, let's go beyond the personal attraction towards a person belonging to a different party.

And let's distinguish between getting attracted to someone and getting committing with her or her:
Attraction involves the two individuals in question, and can have limited responsibilities and implications ; whereas commitment includes a heavy societal anf familial implication.

When you get committed with someone, you need to include him whithin your "inner circle" (family and close friends). In other terms, you must drive your other "inner circle" members to be attracted towards him/her, to accept him/her.

Supposing that your "inner circle" politically goes along with you, how hard would you be willing to fight to make him/her accepted whithin the group, and how hard would your parents resist and oppose this commitments? How much are you willing to support the political "friendly" debates between the new comer and your family.
Whether you like it or not, such debates will definitely take place...

Icon5 Relationships and political affiliations - 2 Weeks Ago

Have you ever dated, got engaged to, or married a person from a different or opposite political affiliation??
How did it go? did it last?

Is it easier for an FPM guy to date an LF girl or for an FPM girl to date an LF guy??

Do you think that political differences can be overcome on the long run?

Would you date a girl/guy if your parents are in political conflict???

I think extreme political differences are hard to overcome, and FPM and LF is such one:D

Well the parents are not supposed to decide, they should accept the person with whom you are happy, but of course they can give their opinion.

So i get it u've never dated an LFer, or u did and it didn't work out

I'm personnally very flexible, while being an FPMer... so it doesn't bother me me much, in fact my fiance is an LFer and i'v learned how to deal with him concerning politics...

That's why i'd like to hear the opinion of people who've went through similar relationships

Thanks

No never dated one...and thx God don't have such concern with my man:D

For me it is actually important to have similar political views which will also indicate in a way similar values.

How do you handle that? There are no fights? Not even at election times?:D

Well, u know common values do not have to be related to politics... family values and educations are the most important.

Well, when we first talked about it, we used to fight a lot, but with time, i've seen that it's better NOT to discuss politics, unless it's a subject which will not make us mud-fight ... aslan, not discussing politics is not "ruining" our life, and i'm not addicted to it thank God , he's a hard shiny LFer and most of his friends are too
(P.s: the not discussing politics includes them too. We have fun, joke about many things, but no Geagea/Aoun. I can take a discussion, but they're somehow fanatics and wouldn't hesitate blowing up my head so...)
And whenever he curses Aoun or FPM, using all "bird names", i tend to just smile ... ahama chi el totnich

HOWEVER, he can say and scream and curse and hit his head on the wall the way he wants, i'll ALWAYS vote FPM

Cheers

Hahaha i'v tried so many times convincing him of my point of view... it's like preaching in the desert... Yostofil. Anyhow, i love him the way he is, with his LF stubborness and stuck up mentality (Yo2borne )

p.s: When he tries to go all "LF" on me, i just smile and cuddle him usually it's enough to make him shut up
