Can God create a rock so big he can't lift it?

Some people say God is ALL-powerful. So one of the classical question that arises (mostly from atheists to disprove the idea of God) is " Can God create a rock so big he cannot lift it?"

If he can create it, there is something he cannot do (ie, lift that rock). If he cannot create it, then again there is something he cannot do (ie, create that rock). So what's happening here?

I would love to here your opinions about this, before giving mine.

PS: [Edited at 3:13PM] Please try to stick to the question, because I bet you'll tend to start arguing whether God exists or not, which is not the point of the thread :). So...can he or can't he?

Why do you want God to lift that rock for you? How do you know that God cannot lift a rock?
God lifted something way much heavier than a rock, the sky for instance, can any other living creature life it?

Dr. we studied this in Logic to counter the argument that is given in schools when we are young.

The argument goes like this:

Who creates bread ? Al Khabaz

Who creates tables ? Al Najjar

etc....

Then they say so everything has a creator and thus we come to who created this whole world and etc.. They used to tell us God.

However this argument is fallable because we can ask in the same manner, who created God ?

So this particular method of proving God exists is fallable and leads us no where.

There is another counter argument that our professor taught us to answer in Logic to the who created god but I forgot it

Ya dr., i was just talking about this subject in the Religion poll: so i'll say the same in here:
Atheists can say what they want and try to prove the unexistence of God through science, it'll never work, do you know y? coz Scientists till now never figured out how the world was created in the beginning. So, till they do so, i'll still believe that god created the world

Dearest myrrh,

I can understand that you cannot accept the logic of Athiests to scientifically prove the existence of God, but do you also have proof that God created the world ?

If you do then please tell me about it, if not then I want to ask you why do you accept to believe that God created the world without proof, but you refuse to accept the Scientists or lets say the Athiests claim in this sense.

P.S. I am not attacking since I am a believer in God in the first place, but I got intrigued by your statement <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Well, my point of this thread was not to prove or disprove the existence of God, so you guys drifted a bit :)

My point was, let's suppose an all-powerful God exists .. ''Can he created a rock so big he cannot lift it''? No one answered yet.

i just want to add a simple clarification:

Atheists are those who do not believe in the existence of god but have no proofs that he does not exist, simply because they don't care and they don't ask themselves this question!

so do not expect a proof of the non existence of god from an atheist

Maalouf, if you say that God cannot create a rock what he cannot lift doesnt mean that he cannot do something. On the contrary, God's power is infinite, and fullfills the whole universe, so theres no such like impossible for God.

So theres a swift in this logic, only rethorics, the statement is false either way!

the world creation was understood and was the only proof sciences brought to proove that God exists....big bang theory was prooved true and it s only the definition of universe that is causing some problems...
check some Hawking s arctiles and especially " a brief history of time " and u ll know what am talking about
