Allergy - 29th April 2006

Allergy is an abnormally high sensitivity to certain substances, such as pollens, foods, or microorganisms.
Common indications of allergy may include sneezing, itching, and skin rashes.

I have pollen allergy in spring every year, and it kills me.

Do you have an allergy due to the pollen or foods .... OR someone ?

Cheers :logo:

i developped an allergy last summer and it reemerged this spring however i have no idea about what's causing it but one thing is sure: it's so **** annoying i heard there are dermic tests to identify the allergen! anyone know anything about those tests?

anyways, to add a little bit to the thread, allergy is the same as "Hypersensibilité de type 1" and it's caused by an excessive and brutal response from the immune system against a certain molecule called allergen (as carlutchi said, the allergen could be pollen, food, dust...) that normally isn't harmful to the organism. some people might be more susceptible than others to develop an allergy due to genetical factors.
When the allergen is recognized by a certain family of antibodies (IgE) binded to mastocytes cells (certain type of blood's white cells), these cells decompose and spill some substances in the circulation such as histamine causing inflammation and hence an accute immune response causing allergy.

Hypersensibilités de type 2, 3 et 4 are slower in time and are due to different mechanisms. PM for more details.

I have allergy to some kind of grass every august for 3 years now. My eyes start itching and I sneeze a lot too. Really, so **** annoying.

The test we shall take in november, when the pollen period is out, but as I hate going to see a doctor, I never took it. I take eye drops in that allergic period, and it helps a lot.
Actually here the air is very dry, as theres no sea or bigger water front near, I dont know whether people suffer from allergy in more humid areas in the same amount as people do in drier lands?

Hi everybody! During years my close cousin suffered from severe sneezing, asthma and ocular allergie. During spring time and early summer was Hell! The only place she was at peace was at the sea side (where the wind is completely clean).

She went to some doctors and they gave her "cortizone". Her parents didn't agree, since from common knowledge this medicine is dangerous and it can cause serious problems.

At last we went to a doctor in Madrid, she made the tests (very wide tests) and told her to take some specific vacines. I remember her allergies were: Pollens (graminia and olive trees), houses dust, and fungus.

She took them during 5 years. In the first year the improvement was very clear. In the second year she didn't have any sympthoms. And now she is cured of the allergies.

I can say that this treatment is very annoying for the care we must have with vacines: we must follow the treatment very carefuly as they advise and never skip an injection. But it really worth it.

Yes, this situation is very dramatic indeed. My cousin suffered a lot too. And everytime she got nervous with something (the school's exams, etc) the situation got worse too. With the vacines she was and is just fine. But, for the safer side, she goes always everywhere with the ventilan and one "zyrtec" (the name os the pills).

My mother suffered of asthma too but she did find the cure in the homeopathic medicine. I really like the homeopathic medicine (specially the medicines from Germany), maybe this could be good for you too... but that's a subject for other thread!
