For instance, astronomical explanations will tell you that a "comet might hit the earth"... Of course, that could happen at any given time, as every couple of years there is talk about this "comet that might hit the earth"! Same thing for disease. There are deadly diseases coming up every couple of years, so nothing specific here. And for theological and prophecies, they are all so vague, they are adapted to match any year!

Back to the Mayan calendar system. The Mayan calendar does not end in 2012! It's a cyclic system, just like our "hours system". It start by 0, ends with 24 which is back to 0...

The article above takes quite a scientific base, and refers to a rare constellation. Maybe nothing will happen, but if those super-flares indeed approach the Earth that will be anything but usual. That will be rather devastating.

We have 3 years still, not so long to wait for a good armageddon:)

On December 21, 2012, for the first time in approximately 26,000 years, the Sun will rise to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way (eye, heart, center) and the ecliptic plane. The sun aligning with the galactic center.

In 2005, many planets were aligned.... Nothing happened!

But it's good for people to hope for the end of the world, it gives them something to look forward to!

On the other hand, it takes a 5 minute google research to find out that all those things are just myths, and that the 26.000 year thing is a hoax created by some Internet geeks, just like the junk mail I receive every year about "Mars getting visible to the eye and as big as the moon"!

The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, recent solar storms have been bombarding the earth with lot of radiation energy. It's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to get worse and calculations suggest it'll reach its deadly peak sometime in 2012.

Scientists in Europe have been building the world's largest particle accelerator. Basically, its a 27 km tunnel designed to smash atoms together to find out what makes the universe tick. However, the mega-gadget has caused serious concern, with some scientists suggesting that it's properly even a bad idea to turn it on in the first place. They're predicting all manner of deadly results, including mini black holes. So when this machine is fired up for its first serious experiment in 2012, the world could be crushed into a super-dense blob the size of a basketball.

The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we're many years overdue for an explosion that will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

No one knows about the end of the world except GOD.

Guys.. I am curious why the world doesn't end each year on December 31!

A calendar is nothing more than a way to note a cycle of time. The Mayan calendar (5126 Years) is quite longer than the Gregorian Calendar, but it too will just start over again!!
