Sorry people, but there is a fact u must learn: Lebanon is not only an uncivilized country, it's not even a country. Halla2 ftordo the opposition wins on June 7, will we have a clean govt? FMP and HA may be clean, bass what abt AMAL, SF, and others? W kamen even if FPM starts rebuilding Lebanon, it will take decades to come. Lebanon is a poor country where u can barely see street lights and where even adresses can't exist. So I tell to all my dear Lebanese compatriots, if u r living abroad, khallik ma7allak, w eza ur living in Lebanon, addim talab 3a visa w trok hal balad (AFTER elections tab3an). | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Robin Hood For This Useful Post: | | | Orange Room Supporter

I had to be Armenian for me to be away from my homeland... And i had to be Lebanese to be away from my country... is it fair?
I miss my family, I miss my mom, dad, sisters, I miss my friends, I miss all the beach and mountains, I miss going downtown... for sure I miss Lebanon...
I left Lebanon on a very tragic day... A black day for all Lebanese and Armenians... I left my house 5 minutes after Amin Jemayel's famous insult to the Armenians...
Before hearing what I heard I was crying... but after I heard it I was smiling, that I will leave all of that behind and go after my future...
Now I am in one of the best countries on this World... But do I want to go back?
I think about it everyday, every minute... Should I leave all of this work, and safety, and laws, and social benefits, and and and... to go back to My beloved country Lebanon?
Do I want my kids to grow up in a place where we don't have 24/24 electricity? Do I want them to be traumatized from airplane noise? Do I want them to see war every 5 years? Do I want them to be victim of some assassination? Do I want them to barely find work? Also Do I want them to live away from Lebanon?
Or I want them to be in a safe country with all the facilities?
Do I want to go back? Will the change on June 7 change my mind too? Will you go back? Will we go back?
Thank you!! | You made the right decision mate to leave the country. Stick with it and resist the trappings of sentimentality. It gets you no where.
It's always tough for first generation migrants. they always pander to excessive nostalgia and from a distance they look at their homeland as a lost piece of heaven because they cant accept having been uprooted.
That is natural as your history and roots are suddently cut off from your present. In the long run though, your children will thank their lucky stars that you saved them from a palce that is artificial and whose only raison d'etre is to be the killing field of ever competing ideologies in a area that has known little peace for thousands of years.
And if you occasionally think that the coutnry could be made better, resist those thoughts as much as you can as they amount to nothing more than delusions. You are one of the lucky ones who have succeeded in leaving, dont tempt your fate and dont ruin your luck by maudlin indulgences and twisted patriotism. Remember, the Middle East is immune to civilisation and the Gods that people living in that part of the world believe in, are not exactly the kindest gods in the world. In fact they are absolutely ruthless.
It's not a pure coincidence that people have been leaving that Land since Adam and Eve roamed the garden of Eden without any clothes on. | | | | | Registered Member

Go try to explain to your (french / american / ...) wife and kids that you decided the family must move to Lebanon. You can't even say that it's difficult only because of the security situation - everything's precarious, wherever you live. But it's asking your wife, your children to leave their job, school, friends etc. And returning to Lebanon is for the expatriates, abandonning their life for the second time : the first when they left Lebanon, the second time when they leave for Lebanon.
Still, there is always a weird feeling towards Lebanon. You love Lebanon and you hate it in the same time. You're attracted and repulsed. That's because Lebanon is some kind of a little mix of what's beautiful and ugly in this world.
One thing is sure, this country leaves nobody indifferent. Everything's so complex, so antinomic... A friend of mine (french) who came to Lebanon for my wedding like two years ago, was stunned and can't wait to come back for a longer stay to discover the country.
He asked me though a question which can sum up the situation : how can only 3 millions people, living in such a beautiful country, being so gifted in so many fields, who can't but live quietly and happily as there is nothing that can justify so many wars, civil strife, turmoil, how can they ruin everything like this and stay in a perpetual war and tension ?
Honestly, puting aside my political opinions and our usual excuses about our intrusive neighbors etc., I can't even give a beginning of an answer. Indeed, how can you explain that during the war, for example, brothers and cousins were sharing their sunday lunch in family, enjoying their meal and the family presence, and on mondays, shooting at each other...
May be we should try to answer to this question, without using the same shortcuts we got used to, in order to move forward. | | | | | Registered Member

rouh adimm 3a talab visa ,, you will get it and your will live in canada or wherever.. loose ur idendity, forget ur country ..anyway we lebanese know how to do this well... | The amount and time of work that we as the next generation will be doing will not be even sufficient for the next generation and neither for the after. I will give some example:
The internet: How much time would it take for us so that we have unlimited bandwidth with more than 1 mb as speed. It would take us about 5 to 10 years. At that time 1 mb would be like 512 k with respect to other countries.(In case someone doesnt know syria, KSA... and most countries that we as lebanese call uncivilized (no offense to any country) have much better internet connections and cheaper).
The water: LOL at infrastructure. I think maybe more than 10-15 years to be able to fix it...
Electricity: What to say ya3ne! Can someone plz tell me a country that doesn't have 24/24 electricity? If so don't tell me they don't have generators that compensate for that time? Maybe after 10 years we would be able to use our water to produce electricity and only maybe by that time we would be able to fix it.
Debts: I guess no one can forget them...can you? Estimation of 40-50 years to be able to repay them.
So please do not tell me that if someone has a chance to go to canada or any other country he would say no unless he really believes that Lebanon could be fixed. | | | | | Registered Member

When the country is up runing we don't need you then..
When we fix everything we won't need you then... The concept of suffering to save the futur of others is something humanity has always had problems with ( jesus our savior is an example)..
Replying to ostwind ,, thank you for reminding us how much work we have to do but we are not scared 50 years or a 100 years... we will do it...
And i can give you better examples:
Korean internet network 1terrabite internet network ( 5 years to complete)
Telstra 3G network ( australia)... 4 years to complete...
So get your numbers right....
Water : Not sure if you live in the same country,, The water is abundant its the unfrastructure we have problems with and its limited to the main supply of areas ,, for example the pipe feeding brumana is not big enough for everyone to have enough water only main pipe needs to be upgraded besides this not a 15 years job..When water is scarce its because of the lack of damns. The hoover **** , one of the marvels of contstruction in the world took 4 years from 1931 to 1935.... So my friend haj ethawill 15 years....
In any warshit 3amal the more people you have working on it the quicker it will finish,, this why you should be in lebanon because after june we will start by realising all this and we need the numbers..
or the other option stay in canada and miss your chance to say i did contribute to make this beautiful country,,the chance to say to your kids i suffered and we lived poor because i had to work to fix this country for you... anyway its a decision only the brave can take... | | | | | Registered Member
