SF wants to include Salim Bey in his list for three reasons,

1. He brings a strong Zghartawi family to the list. Traditionally SF experimented with others from outside the family hierechy in Zgharta. Its a tribal thing. They always either just failed or succeeded by a small margin.
People get offended and prefer to choose their own rep. The Karam family are strong and add to SF's votes. Not "piggy backing" onto him.

2. He will be a Marada Man and a strong FPM Ally. Thus strengthening the groups presence. The guy is a patriot, stubborn and honest.

3. The karam family "lufif" or sympathisers are many. They form the foundation of el Marada. They fought the civil war with determination and courage. They have put a lot of pressure on Salim to work with SF, and reluctantly deserted him since. They emotionally dreamt of a Karam/Fanjieh combination. SF protected Salim from the Syrians who hated his pro FPM stand. Salim finally sought the SF relationship. His prescence on the list will help SF and the Mou3aradas cause in Zgharta and the districts.

The issues with FPM are similar. Many people like them, but on the day, they go back and select family.
GFK should be a candidate and try to win a seat. At least we'll all know whether he was right. However, can we afford to do a mistake and loose a seat ?.. I dont know but I think we can.

FPM shouldnt fall in the Kataeb's Trap. They should not try to Liberate the free. A strong ally is as good as a follower.

Give it time, and all Zgharta will be FPM. Don't microwave it. Let it simmer slowly.Its the transition from the old gaurd to the new.

Nayla broke some of the Zghartawi spirit in 2005. Its the 1rst time, Zgartawis became a minority, on their own turf. This election is the revenge.

General Fayez Karam is a hero and a gentleman. However, when it comes to the Zgharta elections, we need to think about what is happening in Sleiman Franjieh's brains. At the end of the day, although the opposition is working together, it's no secret that each group in the opposition is fighting for the largest possible share they can get. Why should Sleiman Franjiyye be any Different. If SF runs alone in Zgharta without any allies, he can win all 3 seats. Why should he give a seat to us? Why would anyone want to go into parliament with 2 seats instead of 3. This is politics and that's what we as the FPM should be considering. If SF is to leave a seat for General Karam, then we must compensate him with a guaranteed seat somewhere else. A seat in Koura is not guaranteed for Marada (if we are to take 1 and if the SSNP are to take another, because Farid Mekari might yekhro2 and beat Marada) and neither is a seat in Batroun (Boutros will be tough to beat). We have four options:

1. Convince Sleiman Franjiyye to run in Batroun and let Fayez Karam run in Zgharta in place of Sleiman. This will definitely strengthen the Batroun list as Sleiman achieved the highest number of votes in that region among all candidates in 2005, even higher than Boutros Harb and Gebran Bassil. Such a move will almost guarantee both seats in Batroun. However, I don't think Sleiman operates this way. He is too close to Zgharta and wants to be the representative of that qada rather than Batroun.

2. Run Fayez Karam in Zgharta and allow Sleiman to nominate an MP in any area where he feels he can win one with the C&R block, if he accepts to do this.

3. Run Fayez Karam in Zgharta and compensate Sleiman Franjiyye by giving him an important ministry in the next cabinet.

4. Leave Fayez Karam out and nominate him as a minister in the next government.

If you ask me, GFK should run on his to know his own size without FPM and GMA support. GFK should also experience the conflict within his own family.

I hope what you are saying is true.
We don't need to deal with this now , regardless of whether we deserve that seat or no.This is not the time to put a seat at risk for the sake of proving the size of FPM or Fayez Karam for that matter. But i believe if FPM wants a seat, we should really know our size and make it clear that our size entitles us to 1 seat out of 3 in Zgharta.

There's an issue a lot of people are not noticing here, there are no parties in Zgharta, which i believe is the issue that stands in the way of Fayez Karam.I know you might say SF is Marada, its mostly about families, and look at the other two on the list.
Running as FPM without the support(official) of the Karam family will not be liked and will cause much more trouble for us in the future.

Let's me say a few stern words here: over 90% of the C&R bloc candidates would have never been able to win an election had it not been for the popularity of Aoun and his support of their candidacy. It's a fact... and we have to live with it!

I have seen way too much selfishness from FPM candidates and position seekers... much more than I really ever cared to see!

Remember this: the end goal is for FPM and the opposition to win... to get the majority. I don't care about whose name is going to be in that majority. Anyone who is arguing about names (especially his own) is not doing FPM any favor... he's rather displaying selfish behavior.

I read in this forum many times that this candidate "deserves it" and maybe the other one "deserves it more"... this shows nothing but that we still go by the sick Lebanese mentality that "titles" and "positions" are truly what we individual FPMers are seeking.

It hasn't occur to us yet that an MP or a minister is a "public servant"... a servant... one who serves others.

Every time I hear someone saying "I deserve to be MP", I put one big "X" on his name in my book... shou ye3ni "deserve"? I immediately think that person wants to be MP for reasons other than to "serve".

Why do you "deserve"? If it's your service to FPM and Lebanon, than I can easily say that I should "deserve" it 10 times more than you do... and much more than over 90% of FPM's candidates...

And yet, you don't hear me going around saying "I deserve" and you won't hear me say it anytime soon... Why? Because I consider taking a public office as a serious mission of "serving others" and when I see that someone else might "serve" others, FPM and Lebanon at least as good as I can, I don't start crying that "I deserve it more"... the least I would say is that I am happy someone else is stuck doing the work that needs to be done.

Due to the overcrowding in the parliamentary elections, why not propose the following:

1- give GFK a ministry after the election in the new government instead. Army generals are very law abiding people and can bring excellent work ethics and morals into the business of running the government.

2- Keep Sleiman Franjiyeh's list as already declared.

3- Put an end to the discussion
