While these will be no match for the IAF, they could be a threat for Syrian planes (which is why Syria never gave the LAF any of its huge stockpile of Strelas).

In any case, they will be a lot more than the LAF can hope to receive from the US. The better approach would be to acquire a complete Russian TOR-M1 system which will cost around $400million. The problem is the funding cannot come from Iran as Russia will come under heavy pressure not to deliver. It needs to come from some Arab friends, Qatar and UAE maybe?
as u said the balance of power won't allow lebanon to acquire an advanced radar-missiles system....

but even low altitude anti-aircraft missiles would make a difference at least for helicopters...

in 96, Israel targeted the power plants using missiles from its Apache helicopters and many raids were also done with Apache...

The question: How many weeks would you give before seeing the opposition equipping the Army with heavy defensive weaponry, once in power?

Don't know... check what the army did in 1989 in Souk el Ghareb... and in 1990 in Ain El Remmaneh and Dbayeh...

With the proper equipments, training and commanding officers, the Lebanese army can do wonders

why do you answer a question with a question ?

1st Syria is gone and an embassy is being established,

2nd LF and FM are those who welcomed Syria at first and helped her spread her influence in Lebanon

3rd you are refusing help just because you are biased and do not see the good side of the help

4th the US "bte2tol l atil w bet rou7 3a jnezto" if you haven't noticed, and they wouldn't provide us with weapons completely effective against Israel, while Iran is giving it to us

5th Iran wants to show off to the US by saying that she can also play a roll in the region, and does not want to establish an army base in Lebanon unlike the US (and don't tell me there is Hezbollah already, because if you do you are just flooding)

so why not accept the help now? because allah ouwet ?!?!

what you are saying here Abou Sandal is true,
we all remember after July war 2006, Iran suggested to give the Lebanese army anti craft missiles FOR FREE, but the gov didn't agree.
w ba3den bie7kouna bi stratigieh dife3ieh w akel hawa, Lebanon is not allowed to have a strong army, fhamouwa ba2a

if it wasnt for Syria the Lebanese army would still be fighting in Nahr el Bared, this came straight from micheal sleimans mouth when he was ka2ed jaysh.

for the people saying iran wont give any good weapons, i dont think u have the connections Hassan Nasrallah has, when he said thy will arm the lebanese army (with a smile on his face) i dont think he meant ak47s.
