Nasrallah: Iran Ready to Aid Lebanon Army

Iran is ready to give Lebanon military equipment, such as an air-defense system, to support its armed resistance against Israel, Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, and in particular Ayatollah (Ali) Khamenei, will not hold back on anything that will help Lebanon be a strong and dignified state, and without conditions," Nasrallah said.

"So far, Lebanon has not requested arms and Iran will not offer them unless asked," he said in a televised address to mark the ninth anniversary of Israel's troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon after 22 years.

"But Iran will help any Lebanese government that requests military aid," he told a crowd of thousands gathered in the eastern Lebanon Hizbullah stronghold of Baalbek.

Nasrallah also dismissed as farcical U.S. aid to the Lebanese army, which amounts to close to half a billion dollars in training and armament since 2005 but does not include anti-aircraft defense.

He urged his supporters to vote for his Hizbullah-led opposition alliance in the June 7 parliamentary election, saying his coalition would ensure the army was well equipped to defend Lebanon against Israeli.

"Air defense systems are necessary for the army to face Israel," he said.

"Who can secure these weapons for Lebanon? Vote for the opposition and I will point you in that direction," he said in an apparent reference to Iran, which backs the Hizbullah-led opposition alliance.

The June election will pit the Sunni-led Western-backed parliamentary majority against the Hizbullah-led alliance, which is also supported by Syria.

In 2006, Hizbullah and Israel fought a 34-day war that left over 1,200 Lebanese dead, mainly civilians, and more than 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers.(AFP)

Few questions to the loyalists:

1-What did you provide to the Lebanese Army for 4 years in power, other than empty promises and fake slogans?

2-How many weeks would you give before seeing the opposition equipping the Army with heavy defensive weaponry, once in power?

3-Would you accept to ask Iran to provide the Lebanese Army with the needed weapons? If yes, would you ask Sanioura government to do it? And if he still refuses, what would your position be?

What did your friends in Iran and Syria do to help the army from 1990-2005?? They weakened it so that Syria never leaves and HA never turns in its weapons. Expect more of the same if la sama7 Allah you win.

it shows you know nothing about the Lebanese army.

Let's be realistic. Iran cannot afford to give Lebanon any of its sophisticate SA systems, such as the TOR/SA18 it recently acquired from Russia. The most Lebanon can hope for is a batch of the shoulder fired Strela 2s or maybe the locally made Misagh (based on Chinese technology). While these will be no match for the IAF, they could be a threat for Syrian planes (which is why Syria never gave the LAF any of its huge stockpile of Strelas).

In any case, they will be a lot more than the LAF can hope to receive from the US. The better approach would be to acquire a complete Russian TOR-M1 system which will cost around $400million. The problem is the funding cannot come from Iran as Russia will come under heavy pressure not to deliver. It needs to come from some Arab friends, Qatar and UAE maybe?

What a deep analysis...

go tell that to your allies, aka the FM, according to them the reason for the debt is that they built an army and that costs a lot of money, so you might want to ask them, how did they spend that money and on what, since according to you the army was weakened during that period...

Who Doesn't want to build a Strong lebanese army? My Answer Is the WarLords of a certain Period and some of those in the current one who follow in thier footsteps (Specially those who gathered militia men in beirut in order to take the Capital as hostage).

BTW I heard that most Vehicles the Leb army has have been offered by Syria.

Whatever Iran can afford to give us is good.

As for the rest, well...When there is a will, there is a way.

Yes I do. During the civil war (75-77) the army split twice. Last year they tried to control security in mar mkhael politician demanded that officers be punished. In may of last year the army watch helplessly civil war in the making and did not move an inch to stop it. You know, I know and every Lebanese knows that your only chance to become an officer in the Lebanese army is for you to get Wasta from a Za3im. Sad but true....

1) Aid from the US, France and Russia.
2) They would NEVER send anything useful. On the other hand they may send their fully equipped armies
3) Yes. Yes. I would stop liking him. :)

Voila, mbasat halla2?
