at a time when the issue of HA weapons was placed on the back burner and when everybody is trying to be positive.

Hariri, GMA, Berri, Jounblatt are all talking about positivity and even Feltman - of course without interfering in internal lebanese politics - was very optimistic about a possible solution to the deadlock..

we hear those who will lose from Lebanon security and calm, like Haaretz, Natanyahu, the Likud, Israelis, and their sponsors in the US, we hear them still complaining about HA and how they have acquired new weapons, and they even mentioned HA having nuclear weapons in its arsenal..

out of the blues, we now hear Sfeir using the same tone, repeating what the israelis have been saying for some time...

yet again, Sfeir is revealing his twisted mind, he is living for the day when the lebanese will again kill each other... his devilish mind will then be satisfied...

why is he saying that right now?
there are no elections coming... HA will definitely not disarm because some senile person asked them so... the issue of the weapons is out of the discussion... he cannot find more than 15 deputies calling for disarmament..

besides trying to increase the hatred among lebanese... what made him make such a statement?

Sfeir is being used by the ones that will suffer from any rapprochement between GMA and Hariri (I let you guess their identity) to put pressure on Hariri in order to torpedo any efforts by Hariri to meet Aoun's demands. All they had to do is to arrange for his regular interview in al massira. The funny thing is you only hear about al massira when they interview the senile old man.

On a side note: bi7ebb l bahdale...
he doesnt want a military man as president, then a military man gets elected president
he puts a list of candidates for the presidential elections, they elect someone not from his list
he wants a March 14 govt, he will get a national unity govt

The biggest fault of Sfeir is the fact that he happens to be one of the very few people involved in politics in Lebanon who continously delude themselves that a sate is possible in lebanon. If I were he I would take a different approach to events and factor in the fact that no group in Lebanon including HA and the Palestinians and the salafists and all the rest who have hidden weapons stached in storage places, want to give up any of their weapons for any reasons. I would treat all weapons as a reality Lebanon has to live with till the end of its days and try to encourage the creation of a new formulae to accomodate people's inherent bloodthirst, their faith in weapons and their penchant for violence.

It's a society made up of barabaric tribes all vying for supremacy and a larger share of the pie. Unfortunately in that savage part of the world, force is th only language spoken and heard and the rest is all cr*ap.
Contrary to what you guys think Sfeir is not senile at all but he is totally out of touch with reality. He still thinks the monster his church helped create can function . Well, it cant. There are a million reasons why not and not one single convincing reason why it will.

Poor Sfeir if he thinks the useless Lebanese army can provide security for the country let him wake up and smell the coffee.

His motivation is convoluted with many factors that could be seen clearly in the words he chose when he talks to the general media in public and when he talks to media in private interviews. In the former he showed a religious figure who is just relying what others are discussing while in the latter he express his true thoughts and opinions more openly. Accordingly, he is trying to raise the bar for his entrusted politicians to have more share in the government pie as he used to do during Hariri Sr. reign on different occasions. basically he only looks at the short term benefits regardless of what the future might bring on his parishioners. in the worst case scenario, there is a possibility that Batrak is leaning toward the historical project of SG, AKA:Berbara-2-kfershima landscape!!!!

I came to believe that Batrak's approach to Lebanese politics had been characterized by shortsightedness in his actions, betrayal of treachery allies, and foggy visionary that did not benefit but rather induced the downfall of Marouniyeh Siyasiyeh in the last 30 yrs. His interviews with Al massira looks like litmus tests. If his speeches yield an expected results to his liking then he will stand by them; if the response was more than he can handle he will issue counter statements, like he did before, also with Al Massira, few months before the parliament election.

ليس جديداً على البطريرك نصر الله صفير أن يتناول في تصريحاته هذا الفريق السياسي أو ذاك. ليس جديداً على البطريرك نصر الله صفير ما قاله عن ضرورة أن يتسلّم فريق 14 آذار الحكم بعد فوزه في الانتخابات النيابية. وليس جديداً أن يقول إن «السلاح والديموقراطية لا يتفقان، كما أن الأكثريّة والأقليّة لا يمكن أن تلتقيا في حكومة واحدة»، أو أن يقول إن حزب الله يعمل لمصلحة إيران أكثر ممّا يعمل لمصلحة لبنان. ليس جديداً عليه الانحياز إلى فريق ضدّ آخر. هذا حقّ سياسي له يضعه في دائرة النقد.
لكن الجديد في حديثه لمجلّة «المسيرة» أول من أمس، حمل للمرّة الأولى منذ وقف صوت المدافع في بداية التسعينيات من القرن الماضي عبر اتفاق الطائف، موقفاً هدّد فيه صفير بعودة لغة العنف إلى لبنان، إذ حذّر من «مغبة الوصول إلى مرحلة تدفع الجميع إلى التسلّح».
ففي عظته يوم الأحد الماضي، يقول صفير ما حرفيّته: «نلفت نظر المعنيين إلى أنّ أي تعيين لا يراعي التوازن الوطني سيكون له أثر سلبي على المواطنين»، وذلك في إشارةٍ إلى توظيف الناجحين في امتحانات مجلس الخدمة المدنيّة في بلديّة بيروت. فيما ينصّ اتفاق الطائف على «إلغاء قاعدة التمثيل الطائفي واعتماد الكفاءة والاختصاص في الوظائف العامة والقضاء والمؤسسات العسكريّة والأمنيّة والمؤسسات العامة والمختلطة والمصالح المستقلّة وفقاً لمقتضيات الوفاق الوطني، باستثناء وظائف الفئة الأولى فيها وفي ما يعادل الفئة الأولى. وتكون هذه الوظائف مناصفة بين المسيحيين والمسلمين دون تخصيص أي وظيفة لأي طائفة».
وقبل هذه وتلك، لطالما نادى صفير باعتماد نظام انتخابي يعتمد على الدائرة الصغرى، قضاء أو أصغر. بينما ينصّ اتفاق الطائف على أن تجري الانتخابات النيابية وفقاً لقانون انتخاب جديد على أساس المحافظة.
خطورة الكلام الذي سبق، هو أنه يخرج من فم مرجعيّة لها أهميّتها على المستوى الديني والسياسي، أعطت شرعيّة لاتفاق الطائف الذي أوقف الحرب الأهليّة. هل يسحب صفير شرعيّته من اتفاق الطائف؟ سؤال يطرح نفسه بجديّة، وخصوصاً أن (تطبيق) الطائف مأزوم.
هل يكون بناء الدولة بتجاوز دستورها؟ أي دولة هذه التي تُحاصر أبناءها وتمنعهم من الوظيفة العامّة. قضية التوازنات الطائفيّة والمذهبيّة ليست جديدة. رتباء قوى الأمن يذكرون جيّداً كيف مُنعت الترقية عن بعضٍ منهم للأسباب عينها. والمجندون في قوى الأمن أيضاً يعرفون كيف توقفت عمليّة تثبيتهم لأسباب مذهبيّة وطائفيّة.
قبل أسابيع قليلة، سقط شاب بريء ضحيّة شبّان عاطلين من العمل يعيشون حالة مافياويّة. حُمّلت الجريمة أبعاداً طائفيّة، قد يكون بعضها صحيحاً.
قبل سنوات، شُنق شاب اسمه أحمد منصور. هل تذكرونه؟ هو قتل زملاءه لأسباب طائفيّة. هكذا أبلغونا.
اليوم، هناك شبّان عاطلون من العمل. السبب ليس ضعف كفاءتهم أو عدم وجود فرص عمل. السبب طائفي بامتياز. هل يُلام هؤلاء على ردّة فعلهم؟ يقول أحد الذين حملوا السلاح منذ ما قبل عام 1975، وقاتل لسنوات في الحرب الأهليّة: كان حلمنا بالوظيفة العامّة، التي وعدنا بها اليسار، عاملاً في حملنا السلاح. يخشى هذا المقاتل سلاح حزب الله، ويعدّه عائقاً أمام بناء الدولة. عندما سمع كلام غبطة البطريرك علّق قائلاً: يبدو أننا تخطّينا أزمة النظام... الأزمة أزمة كيان.
يقولون إن مجد لبنان أُعطي له. ماذا عن مجد الدستور؟
وفي ردود الفعل التي أتت على كلام صفير، قال نائب الأمين العام لحزب الله، الشيخ نعيم قاسم، إن «كل الدول التي تدعم إسرائيل في مشروعها لا تعمل لمصلحة لبنان ولا تعمل لمصلحتنا، وكل الدول التي لا تدعم إسرائيل في مشروعها وتدعم مقاومتنا هي مرحب بها، ولنا الفخر في أن نكون مدعومين منها». أضاف أن حزب الله لا يحتاج إلى شهادة في الوطنيّة من أحد «لأن وسام الدم ووسام تحرير الأرض هما أعلى الأوسمة، وقد حصلت المقاومة الإسلامية على هذه الأوسمة، ولا تستغربوا إذا لم نردّ على الكثير من التصريحات».
بدوره، أشار النائب مروان فارس إلى أن صفير لا يزال يستكمل «النهج الذي اعتمده منذ رفض الذهاب إلى سوريا لملاقاة البابا يوحنا بولس الثاني، ومن ذلك الحين ما زال ينتهج سياسة أميركا التي هي ضد الفاتيكان والبابا معاً».
