Default THE WEEK IN REVIEW: 3 political deaths that should have been - 19th April 2009

So whats happened in the last week or so?

Murr gets a rude awakening
Nassib Lahoud is dismissed... ...again...
Jumblatt insults 92 % of the country and takes the community leadership of the 8% for a ride.

In any other established democratic country [emphasis on established here] those 3 would have been the deaths of their political career. This is not a rant about how we are not a decent democracy. khalas, thats established.

Its jsut taht its still a source of amazment when i think in the US or europe, a man that loses the source of his votes is instantly politically dead, but not in lebanon.

Its still a source of amazement that in the US or europe, a man that has worthless political connections is politically dead, but not in lebanon.

Its a source of entertaining amazement that in the US or europe, a politician that insults the race of his neighbor's pet dog is politically humiliated and his career destroyed, but not in leb.

Politics IS politics...and always will be... but this... this is God's joke to Lebanon.

How did he insult 92% of the country? From what I've heard, he only insulted Sunnis and his Christian allies.

he insulted

1-maronites
2-sunnis
3-shia

view it again, and for a change listen carefully.
and if you are still not offended, than you are either

1-part 0f 8% ( i would think 8% is on the high side, 6% more like it)
2-or 8.0000000000001% were not offended

what's worse is that the problem is not in the "system" or in the authoritarian leadership... the problem is that what keeps them going is the people themselves.

He doesn't insult Shi'a. He just claims that Christians are attempting to instigate a war between them.

He clearly insulted Maronites, and insulted most of the Sunnis, and at some degree he shows fear toward shia claiming that he cant fight them( when he asks from where do i get weapon), but above all, any honest and patriot lebanese should feel offended cuz the man called a whole community as a bad race, we all know that those remarks in a country like USA would not just result in a political death but also prison.
