Default "there is no democracy in lebanon.if there is democracy hassan nasrallah would have been president" - 9th January 2009

Am sure many would think those words (of the thread title) are the fanatic/extremist words of “mehdi soldier” who is a Shia Muslim zealot. Well to disappoint you, I was on YouTube having fun when I found a video of George Galloway, the outspoken British MP. His exact words tells us of the mess of the so called democracy we have in Lebanon. I have always being a crusader and a jihadist against the sectarian, confessional and apartheid democracy we have in Lebanon. To be honest I find very little difference between our democracy and that of the Nazi state of “Israel”. The only difference is Lebanon is not a state established on the land of another country and is not built on occupation. Else, all the tendencies and features are the same with “Israel” when it comes to segregation, racism and discrimination. They are a religious state built on racist ideas and so is Lebanon. You have to be from a particular religious sect to get a national position. National positions are meant to be for all citizens with no discrimination. We know that is not the case in Lebanon. You have to be Maronite Christian to be president and army commander. You have to be Sunni Muslim to be prime minister and you have to be Shia Muslim to be speaker of parliament. In other cases you have to be from a particular religious sect to be a class teacher in lebanon! This system has caused us conflicts and wars and chaos. When has your religious identity or affiliation become the basis for judging competence?well that is the case in lebanon. When is this mess going to be stopped before it stops us?!!!

Here is the video of George Galloway (pay special attention as from the 3rd minute):

You talked about Racism and sectarianism and in the same time you are sure that SHN will become president because the Shiaa are the biggest sect in Lebanon.

how it is supposed to have a real democracy if the use of Taklif Shar3i would make most of the people vote for a certain candidate ?

Before talking about democracy i would prefere to erase the secterian way of life from the heads of the lebanese ( all the lebanese) in order not to take "orders" neither in form of a taklif shar3i nor in a form of "3izat el a7ad" wa ou3zira man anzara

there is no racism in my thread!
the statement didnt take into account that because the shia are the largest sect in lebanon,SHN will become president.galloway said SHN would become president because he will get the most votes.in order words that is called popularity.this is not only for SHN.today its SHN who has popularity to a large extent.tomorrow it can be walid jumblatt!that is the beauty of free and fair democracy.let the people decide with no religious discrimination.

if i wanted to be racist and i am hinting at sectarian numbers, regardless if only a maronite can be president or not,i would have mentioned in my thread that if lebanon was a democracy,GMA and not GMS would have become president.when there was a power vacuum in baabda there were calls for the people to directly elect the president.and if the people would have directly elected the president i am sure and because the shia are the largest sect in lebanon,GMA,a maronite christian whom the shia love and i myself love would have being president.

another way in which our democracy is lacking,if at all it can be tagged a democracy is the way we elect our representatives and "leaders".its not only that there is discrimination.the system is a rotten system.before every election, politicians fight for the election law that will suit them best and the alliances give little chance for the people to decide.it is the big parties and alliances that can put a monkey in their list, and that monkey can become an MP in the lebanese parliament.even if you're a great man and you dont have a good alliance or you are not in a strong bloc, you will be shoved aside.

The last person i will vote for to become president is a religious person (from any sect), and that's the case for many many of those who are fanatic opposition supporters.

Its no seceret there is little or No central strong goverment in Lebanon.
Everything is determined by your sect and faith you belong to which is wrong in many ways.

I like Galloway but...

He mistakes in saying "christian" rather than Maronite Catholic for president seat.
if you are an orthodox you cant be the president.
Since the taef agreement the primeminister acutally has more power than president.
So why pick on this position?

unfortunately, your free and personal choice which expresses your individuality have no weight in lebanon with the present system.whether its called "taklif shar3eh" or whatever in any sect as "Ra3ed" noted, each sect and each politician in lebanon would clap for any religious injunction as long as it suits his political ambitions and would render him help.walid jumblatt is an example.you got to get rid of the system in order to render the injunctions helpless.its only when the system is spiced with religious sentiments and discrimination that people go by such lines of discrimination.you got to get rid of the system first.then everyone can know whats good for him as you have expressed in your above post.those religious injunctions and those who follow them have nothing to do with religion or spirituality.they are just tools to accomplish an end because most dont know the religious significance.infact its not out of piety that many pay attention to them.its simply because of their corrupt minds and aims.

he didnt target any one position.he talked of the system generally.he mentioned all three top positions, including the PM and speaker.listen again to what he said.

You look like you need to change nick, mehdi, after which you join FPM, or any other party of your choice that strives for secularism & democracy.

Ya me7tel, I guess your topic's title was deliberately malformed to draw maximum attention, while asking for a thing and what appears to be its shocking opposite at the same time.

In a secular and democratic system, you won't even need to wink at a sect's majority status in order for you to forward a certain figure's right to be president, army leader or teacher. Anyways, it looks like we belong to the generation who has the pleasure to "talk" so much the thing, but will never walk it

Default Demographic Errors? - 9th January 2009

According to the current statistics of the Lebanese interior ministery, Shiites make up only 26% of the voting population, making them the second largest sect in Lebanon and nowhere near the >50% required to be a majority. Sunnis are closer to 27%, the Christians combined are 39-40% and the Druze about 5-6%. I doubt that many people outside the Shiite sect would vote for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to be president and I understand that he will not win the votes of all Shiites. I think that Sayyed Hassan would only win about 20% of the vote and that George Gallaway needs to do a bit more study.
