I agree with you on the part that Armenians were always with the state, but let me explain to you briefly why it wasn't a political faux-pas...
Till 2000, we were always with the state and the President, but that was costly at that time, as the President was Mr Lahoud, and Hariri, your ally, had problems with that... He decided to get rid of the Armenian block and join ALL the Armenian MPs in his block and of course make them puppets in his hand.
Of Course the only Armenian party who said NO to this was Tashnag, so Hariri decided to nominate MPs without even consulting any party. So after 2000 elections, we tried to open new bridges with Hariri, but the big earthquake of 2005 came, and his son didn't know the game, and decided to close ALL bridges with Tashnag, the majority of the Armenians in Lebanon. In 2005, I hope you remember, your allies refused to have any Tashnag minister in the government. And the only person who stood next to us and defended us was GMA, either you like him or not...
So read through the lines of history and you'll understand that it was not a mistake but a reaction to a big marginalizing attempts
I hope you can understand the basic reasons...
So is it to be with any President or the President you like?
Thank you!!
